Visual Arts

Wominjenka, and greetings from the Art Room.

Excitement continues to buzz around the school as we prepare for the last of the 150th Celebrations. We have made some minor adjustments to the 150 pom-pom art piece and it will be ready to display along with the kids on sticks that will once again located around the school grounds. With a little luck you will be able to locate your Willy Kid/s.

Back in the Art Room after the initial celebration, there is lots going on.  The Preps work ed on making Cup Buddies. Over two weeks, they cut, folded, drew and decorated a paper cup make an animal or creature of their choosing. While I kept some Cup Buddies to put on display, everyone else was more than excited to take their Cup Buddy home.

Grades Three, Four, Fix & Six have all begun creating art for Book Week. There are some beautiful picture story books that have been shortlisted. The books I have chosen as inspiration are:

The Best Hiding Pace, written by Jane Godwin  & Illustrated by Sylvia Morris (Grade One)

Lionel and Me, written by Corinne Fenton & illustrated by Tracie Grinwood (Grade Two)

Tiny Wonders, written & illustrated by Sally Soweol Han (Grade Three)

Frank’s Red hat, written å illustrated by Sean E Avery (Grade Four)

Where the Lyrebird Lives, written by Vikki Conley & Illustrated by Max Hamilton – (Grades 5 & 6)

As these Book Week creations are works in progress, you will have to wait until the next news bulletin for pictures, so stay tuned.

Before I close, I would like to send a big thank you to all my special helpers who helped put our kids on sticks out on the kids’ celebration day. I really appreciated the fact that you willingly arrived at school so early to help put the Kids on Sticks out. And of course, another big thank you to everyone who helped bring them in, especially Frankie and her little brother who did so with such gusto! Couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks!

Only one more day and it will be time for the adults to party! Hope to see you at the Town Hall or at school for the Open Day on Saturday. Hopefully, the weather will be nice.

Happy 150 Celebrations everyone and remember, stay happy and keep creating art!

LOTE - French

Les Jeux De Maths

Brain Plasticity and Mental Connections

For Cognitive Development

All the year levels have been working extensively on French numeracy in the last two weeks to expand on their practical mathematical learnings in the target language. This is what they have got to, respectively:

Preps – up to ‘vingt’ (20)

Year 1s & 2s – up to ‘trente’ (30)

Year 5/6s – up to ‘cent’ (100)

Each class from year 1 to 6 has created their own cognitive learning number chart, representing only the irregular numbers in a strategized way to be able to work out instinctively all the many regular numbers, tapping into the neuro plasticity of their brain by drawing connections, using their logical mind and deduction abilities. Students have began using their self-created literacy/numeracy charts as board games to engage in highly interactive group play. At WPS, we  love playing with numbers in French!
