Year 5/6 Team News

with Laura, Christina, Bianca R, Molly, Bianca I, Steven & Will

Hello Year 5/6 families,

Curriculum Focus

Inquiry: What an exciting week we had! Our students showcased their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit at our Shark Week expo. They confidently presented their innovative business ideas to a panel of "sharks." It was inspiring to see their hard work and passion shine through as they shared their concepts and answered questions. This experience not only boosted their public speaking skills but also highlighted their potential as future leaders and innovators. Kudos to our young entrepreneurs!

Literacy: We are busy making connections between stories and our own lives. This helps us to understand things better and think about others' perspectives. We're also exploring cool language tricks like similes and metaphors that make stories more interesting. These tricks help us feel and imagine things in stories. Additionally, we're mastering the skill of using possessive apostrophes correctly in common and proper nouns.

Maths: Our Grade 5 and 6 students are diving into the world of numbers! They're busy learning about fractions, decimals, and percentages. These math concepts might sound tricky, but our talented students are tackling them with enthusiasm. They're understanding how these numbers relate to each other and real-life situations. As they build these skills, they're gaining confidence in math and preparing for exciting challenges ahead. Next week we will begin a short unit on probability.

Homework: No changes to homework. Book club reading, book club tasks, literacy sheets, numeracy sheets and logged reading in diaries are all due on Fridays.
