From the Principal

Mr Torpey

St Justin’s Primary School acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia's First People and Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which our school stands.

We pay our respects to the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, and their elders past and present, as we continue to proudly live and learn on their land.

Dear Families and Friends,

We hope you've had a great week.

Feast of the Assumption

On Tuesday we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. The Catholic Tradition has always honoured Mary as being obedient, but the New Testament does not demonstrate a meek woman, devoid of creativity and initiative. It shows a strong, noble woman who put her free will at the disposal of God’s will. That is what the Feast of the Assumption celebrates: and that God remained utterly faithful to Mary through death, as she was utterly faithful to him in life. Discipleship for us therefore does not mean our personality counts for nothing. Rather, it’s the valuing of every individual’s ability to contribute to Christ’s kingdom in a unique way.

  • Sunday 20th August 10.30am

Please keep our Confirmation Candidates in your prayers as they continue on their faith journey.

CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK

Each year since 1945 the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through Children's Book Week. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. You will often see parades with students dressed as their favourite book character.

This year, the theme for Book Week is Read, Grow, Inspire. Book runs from Saturday 19th August to Friday 25th August 2023.

On Wednesday, students and staff will be invited to dress as a character from their favourite book. For more information, please refer to the Book Week and Library News section of our newsletter.

Trivia Night

A reminder that our Trivia Night is next Saturday 26th August. This wonderful event organised by the Parents and Friends will be held in the PAC commencing at 6:30pm.

Tickets are $20 - bookings can be made via trybooking. For more information, please see the Parents and Friends page of our newsletter.

Student Code of Conduct Form

It is now a requirement from MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) that all students who attend a Catholic school complete the Students Code of Conduct. Our prep families have already completed this form.

Staff will go through this form with the Year 1 to Year 6 students and clearly explain the expectations of  acceptable and unacceptable behaviours at school. Students will need to sign this document and bring it home for parents/guardians to read over and also sign and date.

This document ensure that students, parents/guardians and teaching staff all have the same understanding of the expectations around being enrolled in a Catholic School.

All Code of Conduct forms need to be returned to the classroom teacher one week after the form has been sent home.

We appreciate your cooperation in regards to the initiative that has been implemented by MACS.

School Fees

A reminder that all School Fees are due to be finalised by Tuesday 31st October.

By families keeping up with payments or organising for assistance this allows us to maintain activities and programs we already have in place at St. Justin's. We would greatly appreciate your support in regard to this matter.

As is our ongoing practice, should any family’s financial situation have changed, please contact Patrick Torpey or office staff on 9561 7644 or email office@sjwheelershill.catholic.edu.au

Where's  Mr T

Can you find Mr T? He's hiding somewhere in the newsletter.

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.

Kind regards,
