Grade 1 Students

Celebrating our outstanding Ones!

Literacy

We have been working on our persuasive writing skills – writing pieces about ‘The Best Part of Me’ and using the text ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ as a mentor text to convince our favourite colour to not quit! The reasons the students came up with are fabulous – we are so proud of how far they have come with their writing skills. We also celebrated Book Week, and have been sharing some of the shortlisted books during reading sessions. This has been a fun way to look at new texts and unpack them.

Maths

Over the past few weeks, we have been working on addition and subtraction strategies - looking at doubles facts, doubles +1 facts, using number lines and working on our automatic recall of friends of 10 facts. We were also introduced to fact families – using the part/part/whole strategy. Did you know you can write four number sentences from using only two numbers? Ask us how!

Wellbeing

We have continued our yoga sessions with Hello Yoga – this has been so much fun and beneficial for our wellbeing. We have also continued with our Respectful Relationship and Resilience Project lessons. We have been focusing on help-seeking strategies – such as solving problems, caring for others, making friends, and seeking help from adults and peers.
