Foundation Students

Celebrating our fabulous Foundies!

Literacy

Foundation students have been learning new diagraphs sh and ch. Students have been doing wonderful reading and writing using these new sounds. We have been most impressed with their sentence writing. Take a look at Tori and Phoenix's writing and their use of sh and ch sounds! We will continue introducing one new digraph each week, the students are excited about what is to come!

Maths

Students finished their subtraction unit by learning how to take away on a number line. We had a giant number line, you can see below that Sophie is jumping to find out the answer. We also used number lines when we played ’Spin a Sum’  as well as the Subtraction version of 'Get out of my house’. Our new topic will be learning about addition strategies such as friends of 10 and double facts.

Respectful Relationships

Students have been learning about positive coping. We listened to the song ’The power of yet’ by Sesame Street. It is a wonderful song teaching students that it is ok if you can’t do something, it means you haven’t learnt it yet. With a growth mindset, you can use the power of yet!  We recommend listening to it if your child struggles using a growth mindset. We then used puppets and different scenarios to role-play new scenarios and how the power of yet can help us.
