Year 5 Parliament Process Incursion

In our Inquiry unit this Term, the Year 5 students have been focusing on Australian Parliament and the roles and responsibilities of being an Australian Citizen. Students participated in an incursion where they were able to examine the democratic process in Australia. They learnt about the roles of the three levels of government and how the Australian Federal Parliament relates to the Westminster system.

“It was really fun when we were able to role play and be a part of a session in parliament. It was also great that we were able to talk about how to vote and having a say in the rules and laws in Australia.” Ava 5A

“We got to role play different roles in parliament, we also got to participate in a session on how to vote and learn about the system and how they count them.” Genevieve 5B

“My favourite part of the Parliament Incursion was when we got to act out an issue in the House of Representatives about banning P.E. in school. We also got to participate in a vote and vote for local parties”. Jonathan 5C

“My favourite part was when we were able to go into Parliament and see how it works in Canberra. I also liked that we got to understand the difference between the House of Representatives and the Senate.” Sofia 5D

Craigieburn Library Class Visits

Students in Prep and Year 1 will be visiting the Hume Craigieburn Library next term. For your child to be able to borrow a book they must be a member of the library. If your child isn't a member already the weekend would be a great time for you to visit the library and become a member. To sign up, you need to visit the library in person and provide identification with your current address. If your child has a membership card but has not borrowed within the last 12 months, their library card will be expired. We look forward to the library visits next term and making use of this amazing community resource.
