A Message from David & Cam...
Another Great Term!
We are wrapping up another wonderful term at AGPS. Term 3 always seems to fly and this year was no exception as we packed in so many activities and events for our students. This has included the first camping experience for our year 2 students, a whole range of sporting events with a large number of individual and team achievements, a fabulous Book Week with an amazing parade for the whole community and many different excursions and incursions that really complement the wonderful curriculum programs that have been taught across the school.
We have also seen significant growth of the students academically as well as socially and emotionally. We are really proud of the attitude, commitment and enthusiasm of the students across the school as they engage in all aspects of school life and we are also really proud of the students as they uphold and display our KEFAR values in and out of the classroom - we certainly have terrific kids at AGPS!!
We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to our whole school community for a great term. We always feel so fortunate to be part of such a positive and supportive environment that works together to support our students - THANK YOU!!
Father's & Special Person's Day
We recently celebrated Father's Day and welcomed our fathers and other special visitors into our school to spend some quality time with their child/ren. It was a lovely afternoon and it was great to see so many people turn up on the day. The Bulldogs (boo, hiss) brought some goodie bags for the students and the sausages were on high rotation. These days are very important to our school community, however, they simply would not happen without our wonderful volunteers. A very hearty thank you to everyone that helped organise the day and the happy faces from our students and dads makes all of the hard work worthwhile!
Book Week
We had the best week last week celebrating books and promoting a love of reading. Our students were treated with a wonderful Book Week performance, enjoyed storytime during lunchtime, created their own books for our first 'Battle of the Books', and made their book-themed door displays for their classrooms.
The highlight of the week was the delayed dress-up day and parade on Monday. As usual, the creativity on display with the costumes was great to see and the sense of fun and joy during the parade was wonderful. We would like to thank all the parents and carers and staff for supporting this event and making it great. We would also like to acknowledge and thank Carly, along with the library leaders and monitors who have worked tirelessly in the planning, preparation and running of the very successful parade. We are so proud of you all - thank you!

Division Athletics Carnival 2023
What an outstanding performance by our young Altona Green Primary School athletes. So many winners at the next level again! The event involved the students in a giant challenge, competing with other winners from Hobsons Bay, as well as the Wyndham sports divisions. It was a cast of thousands putting their best skills forward! Congratulations to all the students who tried their best at either individual and/or team sports events on the day.
A big well done goes to the following students on their personal achievements:
- Luca 6F (1st in both 12 boys 100m and long jump),
- Jensen 4/5BM (1st in both 11 boys 1500m and 800m),
- Harriet 4/5BM (2nd in 11 girls 1500m),
- Ruben 4/5E (1st in 10 boys shot put),
- Joseph 4/5Z (2nd in 10 boys long jump), and
- Sam 6C (2nd in 12 boys 1500m and 800m).
Wishing these students well as they move forward to the Western Metropolitan District athletics competition, coming up in October.
Thank you so much for representing our school so well children!
Williamstown Wolves Baseball Clinic
Our Grade 4/5s enjoyed a taste of baseball last week with visiting coaching staff member Daniel Chircop delivering an excellent clinic to our students. He was also joined and supported by some former students who now play for the Williamstown Wolves.
The Altona Green students participated in a range of mini-clinics including throwing/catching, fielding and striking experiences. A great day was had by all!

Year 2 Camp
Our Year 2 students (and staff) will be tired tonight! They have had the best time at Camp Angahook over the past two days and have been blessed with glorious weather. The teachers and camp staff have commented on how great our kids have been and how they have all been encouraging, persistent, resilient, and courageous. The students have participated in activities such as archery, damper making, hut building, and probably the highlight for many, the giant swing! Thank you to all the staff for planning this special event and for spending time away from your own families so this can go ahead for our kids.
ChildFund & Foodbank
We have so many caring kids at AGPS who want to make a difference. We have had two recent examples of this where our students have been inspired to help others and have dedicated their own time to make a change.
The first is Matilda, Clara, Lucy and Kaavya who spent their free time making stressballs and slimes to raise funds for ChildFund. The girls wanted to support ChildFund as they felt lucky to have access to food, water and shelter and wanted to help children who don't have these things.
The second is Olivia, Olivia, Lily and Josie who ran another food drive this year to support Foodbank. They collected 15 bags full of donated food and made the drop off to Foodbank last Friday. The girls were motivated to support Foodbank once they learnt about many people struggle to have enough to eat every day.
We are so proud of all these students and the kindness they have shown towards others. Well done, girls - you have made a wonderful difference to so many people
Maths Olympiad
This week, our committed group of mathematicians completed their final Maths Olympiad test for the year. The development of effective mathematical strategies throughout the year has been clearly evident and every participant should be very proud of their efforts.
A special shout-out to Izzy Egan who achieved the incredible result of 18/20 for the combined result of the four Olympiad tests. This is a phenomenal achievement - well done, Izzy! All of our participating students will be formally acknowledged at our end of year assembly and at our Grade 6 Graduation for the Grade 6 participants.
Students Leaving AGPS in 2024
We have begun the planning process for 2024 and we would greatly appreciate it if parents could please notify the school if your child/ren will not be returning to AGPS in 2024. Please contact the office 9360 0777 or altona.green.ps@education.vic.gov.au to let us know.
This information is important as it directly impacts how we structure our grades as well as our staffing and resource needs for 2024. Further information relating to 2024 Planning will be communicated as we work through the process in Term 4.
We hope that you are all able to rest and relax over the upcoming holiday period. Hopefully this beautiful spring weather continues and anyone but Collingwood wins the grand final!
Take care,
David & Cam
