Primary School News

Mr Michael Connolly, Head of Primary School

Dear Primary Parents,

This Friday, we welcome our class of 2024 to the college for their Orientation Day. I am sure there is a healthy mix of excitement and nerves for all the boys who will join us on Friday to take their first steps on their Marist journey. We have a number of activities planned for them on Friday and look forward to making these future Marist Men welcome in our community.  Theirs is a journey that will culminate when they leave us as the graduating class of 2031. Perhaps there will be a few future Olympians amongst them.....only time will tell!

Also on Friday, we wish our Year 6 students all the best as they take part in their Year 7 Orientation Day here at the college. These boys too will be feeling a range of emotions during the week ahead and that is perfectly normal, as the move from Primary School to High School is very much uncharted territory for most of them at this stage of Year 6. I am sure our current Year 6 boys will do themselves, their parents and their teachers proud on Friday as they show the new students what it means to be 100% Marist, 100% of the time.

Our Year 5 students do not need to attend school this Friday.

All the very best of luck to everyone involved in the orientation activities this week.

Anthony Graham – Primary Pastoral Leader

This week, Year 5 students will be introduced to the Primary Student Leadership Process for 2024. All students in Year 5 will be exposed to what Student Leadership is at Marist College in a meeting tomorrow. All boys are welcome to take part in our leadership process. If boys have expressed interest through a sign-up process tomorrow, they will then be asked to attend a Retreat Afternoon in the Marist Centre at the end of this term. Boys will be emailed this link, and as an initial opportunity to demonstrate leadership, they will need to accept the invitation.

Following this process, students will write an application letter and the primary staff will create a shortlist of applicants who will be interviewed by members of the leadership team. More formalised dates will be given to the students and updated in the newsletter. We encourage Year 5 students to go through the process and apply for leadership positions in 2024.

College App

Please ensure that you download the College App. This app will be used weekly to inform you of sporting fixtures, cancellations, and bus arrival information.

Pick-up Arrangements - “Plan B”

It is important that you are aware of your son’s pick-up procedure if sports training is cancelled or if you are running late.

As soon as a decision is made to cancel a sporting fixture or training, a message is placed on the College app.

If training is cancelled boys can remain in the primary school or walk to an arranged pick-up-point when the time arrives.

Sport training sessions finish normally finish by 4:45pm. We ask that boys are picked up at this time, or soon after. Any boy who is still at their training venue at 5:00pm will be directed to the Boarding Reception area so that he may be collected from there.

In the case of bus arrivals, boys will be sent to Boarding Reception 15 minutes after the arrival time of the bus.
