Are Hempcrete bricks the future?

8A have recently been trying to answer this question. They have been working with the Geelong Tech School to make their own hempcrete bricks and then take them into the Geelong Tech School East campus to the brick makers area to test them against regular clay fired bricks. The tests that they completed comparing both brick types were: compression, shear force, sound insulation, thermal insulation, absorption, sustainability within production and manufacturing. It was great to be able to get out of the classroom and into the TAFE/tech School to develop our understanding.

Urban Beeology

The Year 10 Horticulture class attended the Geelong Tech School on Thursday 24th August to learn about the problem’s bees are facing worldwide and to try to learn how we could adjust our urban environments to make areas more ‘bee friendly’ to support bee populations.

Students used Twin Motion to design a roof top bee friendly (and human friendly) environment for the Geelong Tech School. It was amazing to see the variety of designs and creativity that students came up with. They had the opportunity to ‘fly’ through their designed environment using VR headsets at the end and were able to turn their view into a video for others to see. Another excellent excursion at the Geelong Tech School.
