Alumni Appreciation Interview
Shannon Ng, Class of 2023
What years did you attend Waverley Christian College?
I attended the college from Year 5 to Year 12
What or who motivated you at the College?
During my time at the college I felt motivated by teachers.
What is your fondest memory of your years as a student?
Working with Mrs Viljeon as a pastoral mentor and English teacher was definitely one of my fondest memories. I really appreciated the way she made me feel seen and heard at the College.
What were the biggest challenges you’ve faced since leaving School?
My biggest challenge has been deciding what I want my future to look like. I’ve felt overwhelmed with choice about what to do with my next 12 months, even sometimes craving the routine that school provided.
What goals did you set yourself when you finished at WCC, and have you stuck to that plan?
If I’m being perfectly honest, I’m not the best with goal setting. However, I have challenged myself to step outside of my comfort zone and say yes to more opportunities.
What drew you to your area of work or study this year, and what do you love about it? This year, I’ve chosen to take a break from study and focus on building my skills as a tennis official. Since learning to play, becoming a chair umpire and line umpire has been an excellent opportunity for me to get more involved in the sport. I have loved being able to watch high level tennis at the junior and professional level, while exploring the Australian cities these tournaments are held in. Since graduating, I’ve been lucky enough to be selected for events in Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Mildura and the Australian Open.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
As someone who has recently graduated from high school, everyone loves to give you a piece of advice. For me, I found it quite overwhelming and I struggled to take it on. However, something that I do like to remind myself from time to time is that nothing is ever as bad as it seems.
What excites you most about the future?
For me, the most exciting part of my future is that I have no clue what it is going to look like. At this point, I don’t know which city I’ll be living in or what employment opportunities will come about.
What advice do you have for current students?
I always encourage current students to stay involved in their local communities. Whether that’s having a part time job, playing sport or volunteering. I think it’s so important to have an activity that is not related to schoolwork to give yourself a break. It also gives you an opportunity to connect with like-minded people that you otherwise would have never met
Any additional comments?
High school was such an intense and high-pressure environment, so if you ever feel that you need additional support don’t be hesitant to contact the Student Wellbeing Coordinators.

2023 VCE Results
Congratulations to our Staff and students across both campuses for their fabulous efforts with regard to this year’s VCE!
2023 VCE Results were again most encouraging for the school community. It is important to note that although we are delighted with these results, we are equally proud of all our Year 12 students who have done their best to achieve the results that they did.
