Student Learning

Class News from Year 2

This term in Year 2 students have enjoyed developing their narrative writing ideas and techniques. In Maths, we have collected data and represented it in a bar graph and pictograms. In Design and Technologies, students planned and designed a diorama for a space of their choice on the Campus grounds. Their thoughtful designs included improvements to the nature play space, the JP playground, the chook shed enclosure and the oval. In Visual Arts, students made different crafts by sculpting and painting and in HASS students have learnt about the significance of Adelaide Oval for our community and compared how changes in transport and communications have impacted our lives.

Year 3/4 Excursion

With great excitement and curiosity, the Year 3/4 classes spent the day at the South Australian Museum to explore the exhibitions linked to our Science and iUnit topics. After sharing recess on the lawns in the gorgeous morning sun, we broke into small groups to explore the exhibits. As teachers, one of the highlights was seeing the learned knowledge being applied to interpreting the displays, discussing arrangement choices and analysing historical influences on the role of museums in society. The giant squid and mineral collections were student highlights. Some of the budding scientists discovered mole crickets in the lawns and did some behavioural observations with the feral pigeon and magpie populations during lunchtime. It remains a family favourite destination as most students shared about how often they go with extended family and friends. Thank you to Hannah, Jenni, Fiona and Silky for supporting the students throughout the day.

Some museum humour for your Christmas crackers...

  • After looking up at all of the amazing fossil displays, I discovered a new species - Myneckisaur.
  • The gaurd at the museum was so knowledgeable. When asked how old the dinosaur skull was the guard replied, "3 million years, 5 months and 12 days old." When asked how they could be so accurate, the guard replied, "Because when I started here 5 months and 12 days ago, it was 3 million years old."

Year 6 Graduation

On Monday our Year 6 students, staff, families and friends gathered to celebrate the end of our senior students’ primary school years. We started with a dinner for the students, which was beautifully decorated by the Year 6 parents. Students had created certificates for each other and shared what they have appreciated about their classmates. It was a joy-filled celebration dinner, with 3 delicious courses and a photo booth to enjoy!

The service that evening captured memories and highlights of their time at Pilgrim. Each student spoke, we reminisced with some video clips of their time here, and together they performed a class dance. We enjoyed hearing their funny stories and how they have grown in their faith. This year’s senior class is a wonderful group of students and we wish them God’s richest blessings as they move to high school.

Thank you so much to everyone who served at graduation or in the lead-up. We appreciate the hard work that went in to making it possible.
