Calrossy Careers
Career Development opportunities
Calrossy Careers program continues to excel in providing exceptional career development opportunities for its students, demonstrated recently by a visit to the Richard Crookes constructions site for their new $700 million Baiada Processing Complex.
During this visit, students had the unique opportunity to engage with industry professionals and gain firsthand insight into the construction industry.
The highlight of the visit was a talk by Blake Murphy, a 2018 Alumni of Calrossy. Blake shared his journey from Secondary school to his current role as a Site Engineer at Richard Crookes. Blake, who completed his Bachelor of Construction Management at the University of Newcastle, emphasized the importance of a solid educational foundation and practical experience. His career progression serves as an inspiring example for our current students, showcasing the tangible outcomes of dedication and hard work.
Calrossy Anglican School's careers program is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application.
By facilitating interactions with industry professionals and organizing site visits, the program equips students with valuable knowledge and skills that enhance their future career prospects.
Calrossy Careers Advisor Charles Impey commented, "We are incredibly proud of our careers program and the opportunities it provides for our students. Visits like these are instrumental in helping our students understand the practical aspects of their chosen fields and inspiring them to pursue their dreams with confidence."
Bupa Bake-off
Calrossy and Tamworth High School students today joined forces in the inaugural Bupa Bake-off, held at Calrossy. The event invited residents from Bupa Aged Care in Tamworth, as students from both schools went head to head in a bake-off in teams of two to three students.
The Executive Officer of the Baking Association of Australia, Tony Smith, attended alongside representatives from New England TAFE, who judged the cupcake creations. The Bake-off was the brainchild of Calrossy Careers Adviser, Charles Impey, who is keen to showcase hospitality pathways to the students and address the current workskills shortage. At the end of the day, the Calrossy team of Annika McCulloch, Emily Tongue and Harmony Phillips took out the win.
Luke named Best Delegate
Luke Suter was named Best Delegate for the Trade and Development Committee at the Harvard Model United Nations 2024 Australia Conference last week. The Harvard model Conference is where high school delegates join with Harvard College undergraduates, with the goal of learning about diplomacy. Together they formulate resolutions, address conflicting beliefs, and work towards ameliorating issues that plague the international community.
This is a wonderful achievement. Congratulations Luke
