EXPO Try A Trade

On Tuesday 14 May our Year 10 VCE VM Work Related Skills class visited the South East Careers and Try a Trade Expo. Our students eagerly visited hundreds of stalls spanning a multitude of different interests and potential career pathways. It was a valuable day, with students having the opportunity to have a go at a breadth of hands-on tasks including carpentry, electrics, automotive, landscaping, welding, bricklaying and even changing a baby’s nappy! It was fantastic to see our students step out of their comfort zone to try something new and ask questions of all the experts that were available to them on the day. This excursion was an excellent way for students to apply their knowledge of the changing world of work from Unit 1, Area of Study 1, as well as forming the basis for several activities that will become part of their Digital Career Portfolio for Unit 1, Area of Study 2. Here’s what the students had to say:

“My favourite part about the Try a Trade Expo was that it was very interactive, and the people were friendly and helpful. They were open to questions and provided valuable information, meaning there was a lot of opportunities to see and ask about your future pathway” – Ry Besanko, Year 10

“My favourite activity was probably plumbing, because Dave was very nice and helpful – he showed me how to bend the copper and put a flare on the end of it” – Dylan Gray, Year 10

“I think the best part of the day was the electrical workshop where I got to look at the different electrical circuits and have a go at it. It helped to confirm that I want to pursue a career in electrics” – Cooper Rowley, Year 10
