ANZAC Day Assembly
"In the lead up to ANZAC Day, the LEAD class has been planning and preparing for the ANZAC Day assembly. We all worked together, weeks prior, in ensuring that we have a great assembly. Everyone had a special part in the assembly including working on the visuals, researching different topics relating to ANZAC Day, speaking at the assemblies, making poppies, playing music, singing and much much more! Everybody worked hard to bring this assembly together and at the end everyone who was involved was so glad that it went well."
"The Anzac Day Assembly was a great success coming from the LEAD class. We spoke in front of two different assemblies in the stadium about the importance of ANZAC Day and the history behind it to all Years 7, 8 , 9 and 10 students. The assemblies ran smoothly and so many people were involved and included in running them. This day gave us the opportunity to reflect on the history of Australia and the people that have died and risked their lives to give us the country we are standing on today. It was so incredible watching everyone work together and help with everything they could. Thank you to our guest speakers; Mrs Sue Robinson, Mr Nick Toovey, Mr John Russell and Lucas Gilbert (Year 10)."
Thank you also to Ms Bahramis, Mrs Bambridge, LEAD class, staff, Year Level Captains and the Vocal Ensemble who helped make them great ANZAC Day assemblies.

Year 7 Japanese Drumming Incursion
On Tuesday 14 May all Year 7 Japanese classes participated in the WADAIKO Drumming Workshop consisting of a high-powered drumming demonstration plus the opportunity for all students to learn about and play the unique taiko drums.
The workshop was conducted by Toshi and Aki from Wadaiko Rindo the Japanese drum ensemble based in Melbourne. Toshi Sakamoto began teaching taiko in Melbourne in 1996 and currently instructs over 100 students, including a community group in Franston.
His group Wadaiko Rindo has performed in many places around Australia, and internationally in New Caledonia, Tonga, China, Fiji and Japan. You may also have seen them perform before the start of all Richmond Tigers home games at the MCG.
The performances of Wadaiko Rindo are spectacular visual displays of stamina, strength and humour, with the vibrations produced on stage energising the whole audience. Our Year 7 students and teachers enjoyed the show!

House Athletics Fundraising BBQ
The SLC and LEAD students ran a fundraising BBQ at the 2024 House Athletics carnival on Tuesday 7 May. The House Athletics carnival started out well, having over 1500 students there. There was a high demand for sausages throughout the day!
The food was provided by Mount Eliza Bakers Delight who donated 40 loafs of bread to the event and Mount Eliza Village Gourmet Meats who supplied the sausages (they donated 200 of the 850 sausages that were cooked on the day!).
The BBQ raised $1626.53, with all the profits donated to the Climbing for Cade appeal, in memory of past student, Cade Watts, who sadly passed away in February 2023, at the young age of 15, from Ewing Sarcoma. This appeal is supporting the Hudson Institute of Medical Research who are researching a cure for this rare and terrible form of cancer.

Science Symposium
It was a privilege to welcome back 2023 alumna and Frankston High School Philosophy Dux Shannon Loader as a guest panellist.
The event was a success from both a student learning and cross-faculty collaboration perspective; in the words of one student attendee:
"It was fascinating to hear the panellists' views, specifically through their different lenses of expertise. The event was all so well organised, ran so smoothly and some points were raised that I had just flat out never considered before, especially in relation to modern day limitations of science! It definitely sparked some deep conversations and new ideas."
Many thanks to all who were involved in creating this opportunity for our students, particularly the Science teaching staff who appeared on the panel:
- Ms Kate Adriaans
- Mr Brendan Allen
- Mr Aaron Elias, and
- Mr Tom Whipp

IDAHOBIT Day
On Friday 17 May, we acknowledged IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia) Day. Recently IDAHOBIT Day has grown to be referenced to as the Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination.
Many staff and students wore rainbow accessories to show their support our LGBTQIA+ students and to foster inclusiveness within our school community.
A flag raising ceremony was held this morning and Olivia White (Year 8) won our number of sour patch babies competition. Our Year 10 VCE-VM Work Related Skills class also made a message board and message templates for our students to use to show support to our LGBTQIA+ community. A celebration lunch also occurred. Thank you to all staff and students for their support of this important day.
