Western Australia Day has come and gone, the rain has officially arrived, and Semester 2 has commenced.
Staff have been busy writing Semester 1 Reports. These will be distributed via email on Friday 21 June. I encourage all parents to please take the time to go through your child’s report with them, celebrate their successes and support them in the areas they can improve on.
In order to improve outcomes for students, it has been pleasing to have been able to action some plans to further develop our staff. Two of our staff were successful in gaining scholarship positions as part of the Teach Well Masterclass in High Impact Instruction course. This will strengthen their ability to create Explicit Instruction lessons and further increase the learning of our students.
On Friday 31 May, all of our instructional staff were able to participate in a full-day workshop on Understanding Learning Difficulties and Appropriate Accommodations, delivered by the Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation. The workshop focused on the visible signs of learning disorders, effective teaching and accommodation strategies, and issues such as self-esteem. Whilst the workshop was focused on Specific Learning Disorder examples, the strategies and accommodations provided can be utilised with all students having difficulties with understanding concepts, I am confident all of our staff are well-equipped to support students in the educational journey.
As College staff we have been assessing our progress with the 2022-2024 Business Plan. On Monday 15 April, all staff rated each priority area to determine how we are going, what evidence do we have, and what needs to be done this year to achieve it. On Wednesday 1 May, staff then gathered together again to discuss the actions that had been planned, and we reviewed these actions against the recommendations from the last Public School Review in 2021. These actions are now being discussed and addressed in each of our Senior Staff Meetings, with staff allocated against the actions and a timeline. It is anticipated that, as a result of this review and the proposed actions, the focus for the next Business Plan will be evident.
