Fifty students from Master the Westall iCreate Café visited Zest Restaurant at Holmesglen TAFE on Wednesday 19th June. We enjoyed a 3-course meal with a Popcorn Mocktail served by first-year Hospitality students in a formal restaurant setting. Feedback from the students was very positive, they noticed how calm and efficient the environment was and hoped to make this a goal in our café.

Students in Year 8-11 Food Studies ended the term with a MasterChef Competition where they invented their dishes and cooked and cleaned them in a one-hour class. Student favourites included deep-pan pizza, plenty of cookies, pho, spaghetti, and penne.

Wonderful cooking has been produced by the students this semester including Anzac biscuits, gnocchi, formal cakes, fried rice, mee goreng, kangaroo chili, garlic brioche, scones, dumplings, curry, and Cambodian donuts. Students are progressing learn to higher levels of complexity doing a lot of new skills, so why not ask them to cook your dinner?

The commercial cookery students did a Mother's Day buffet lunch for the staff including mushroom soup, osso bucco, risotto, lamb chops, green salad, and a plethora of desserts. The students looked very professional in their chef uniforms and enjoyed meeting the guests who they cooked for.

Catering for this Semester included hot and cold breakfast, morning teas, snacks, lunches, and afternoon teas. Well done to the hard-working volunteers and staff who have helped out in their own time to contribute to the community at Westall.

Throughout half of the term students have been practising new cooking skills.
