The VET Carpentry course opens employment opportunities in the building construction and building industries, by providing students with the skills and knowledge required for carpentry and building trades. The course is designed to strengthen their carpentry or associated building trades apprenticeships prospects.
The students gain experience in using hand and power tools, and learn a wide range of carpentry skills, including how to install windows and doors, wall framing, interior fixing and roofing.
The Westall Careers Expo proved to be biggest by far this year, with thirty exhibitors including, ADF Careers, Victoria Police, Head Start, CCW Studios, Chisolm, Boating Industry Association Victoria, Deakin, Holmesglen, VET Group, Monash University, RMIT, Swinburne, Torrens University, AIDE, Brick and Block Careers, CMV Truck and Bus Training Institute, Endeavour Foundations,’ Inspired by You’, Goodman-Fielder, Little Swim School, Capital Transport, Tristar Aviation, Sheen Panels, Uniting, SECL and STEM mentors – Microsoft, Starfish Early Learning, MAS National Apprenticeships, AGA-SBATs Traineeships and Reece.
The expo offered opportunities for VCE students to maximise information input offered by the Careers Expo/Market providers. They were able to gather information about career pathways, education and training, and job opportunities.
Ms Borgonha, was the incredible force who bought this exceptional event to Westall this year. Our guest providers did not walk away empty handed, they were presented with beautiful laser cut Westall logo glassware as a token of thanks, designed by our very own – technology teacher Mr Richardson.
Thank you for all the lovely photos to those who provided them

All our 95 VET (Vocational Education and Training) students are progressing well. Some of our Year 12 VCE and Vocational Major students will be undertaking their Structured Work placements in Electrical, Manufacturing, Automotive, Retail, Hospitality and Early Education and Care during these school holidays.
Westall Secondary College is privileged to run two VET Programs on site – VET Cookery headed by Mrs Read assisted by Mrs Lynette and VET Sport and Recreation by Mr Travis McIntosh and our RTO Skillinvest Australia delivers VET Building and Construction Carpentry on site every Friday.
Our 3 School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships students are also making huge strides with a pathway whilst they are at school and beyond. Their employers such as National Food Institute, GRE8 in Supply Chain Operations and REECE speak highly of their reliability, work ethic and expertise. These students work during the school holidays on Wednesdays and Fridays and are compensated by receiving their wage and learning new skills.
94 students in Year 10 are currently doing work experience where observation is key to their knowledge of their world of work. We thank our local employers for providing our students this opportunity and parents and care givers for getting students to their work places.
The photographs provided by our visiting teachers are testament to our students enjoying their work experience from 24th to 28th June 2024. Thanks teachers and students for all your support and to Ms. Barb Hose for her support with every student completing their Safe@Work certificates and Mr Lanarus for signing all the work experience forms… which seemed never ending.
