Jack's Letterbox

Jack's Letterbox
Jack's Letterbox

You may have noticed the bright and colorful mailbox in our office! This special letterbox was generously donated by the Davey family in loving memory of their son, Jack. Designed with a cross-country theme that will change throughout the year to reflect school events - particularly those loved by Jack. Jack's letterbox is more than just decoration — it’s a symbol of connection and purposeful rememberance.

The Davey family hopes that Jack's Letterbox will become a meaningful way for students and staff to share messages of kindness, gratitude, and hope across our school.

Stay tuned for updates and be sure to contribute your own messages!

Honouring Jack Davey at the MCG: Free Tickets for ASPS Families

This Saturday 10 May, the Melbourne Football Club will be honouring the memory of Jack Davey as part of their banner run-through. Mothers & Special Friends Morning: Monday 12 May

Mothers & Special Friends are invited to spend the morning with students on Monday 12th May, 9am - 9.50am. The morning will consist of two x 20 min sessions so that guests have the opportunity to visit more than one classroom if they wish to do so.

Kate Nancarrow, an experienced school leader,

will also be joining the team for the next 6 weeks or so to help cover planned absences within the leadership team. While their visits to our school will be relatively brief, I'm sure that all staff, students and families will make them feel welcome!

Important Road Safety Reminders

A number of parents have raised with me their concerns around traffic safety on Burgess St and Tooronga Rd. Please take a few moments to consider the following:

  • Take your time - nothing is more important than being safe on our roads and around the school.
  • Use the Kiss and Go Zone to drop students but do not park in these areas
  • Students must not exit cars that are not in a designated parking bay. The risk of letting your child/ren out while still in the lane-way is incredibly dangerous.
  • All students and family members are asked to cross at the supervised crossing. Amy, our crossing attendant does a wonderful job and will appreciate your help with this.
  • Observe all parking signs and road rules. The school will request attendance by Council Parking Officers or Vic Police if this continues to be a problem.
  • Aim to arrive by 8:40am for drop-off and if your children are a little older, a 3:40pm pick-up from Burgess St is fine as staff are on duty till 3:45pm.
  • Active transport is the best transport!

Whole School Photos

Each year Auburn South Primary School will arrange for a professional photographer to take official school photographs of students. This will involve both class photos and individual photos being taken.

Official school photographs may be:

  • Purchased by parents/carers
  • Used for school identification cards and student identity verification letters
  • Stored on CASES21 for educational and administrative purposes
  • Published in the school newsletter
  • Displayed on school premises

The 2025 Whole School Photo and sibling photos will take place on Monday 12th May. Class photos and individual portraits will be taken on Thursday 15th May.

Parents/carers who choose to opt out of having their child participate in official school photographs must contact the school in writing (auburn.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au) before the date that photos are scheduled to be taken to advise that their child will not participate. There is no obligation on any parent or carer to purchase any photographs taken. However, the school will need to discuss with these parents/carers alternative arrangements for identifying students in emergencies and for essential purposes.
