Minecraft for Education
Each week, the grade 5/6 students are involved in Minecraft for education sessions. Students are provided with tasks that they are to complete that link directly to the curriculum. The task for this week was for students to build a Space Research Base on an Alien Planet. They had to think about the following build criteria:
Alien Planet Terrain:
Create a landscape (mountains, craters, rivers of lava or ice). Choose a theme: ice planet, desert moon, jungle-like exoplanet, etc.
Space Research Base:
Habitat Modules (where astronauts live)
Science Lab (where they study the environment)
Greenhouse (to grow food)
Energy Source (solar panels, wind turbines, or alien tech)
Communication Tower (to contact Earth)
Rover Garage (with vehicles for exploration)
Students work independantly or in teams. Below are some pictures of what they have created so far.
Buddies
Each week we work with the students in Foundation to learn all about our school values of respect, responsibility and kindness. This week we looked at the qualities that we have that make us special. Here is some pictures of us working together.
Reading
We all enjoy a good read and are exploring authors such as David Walliams, Shaun Tan and Suzanne Collins. Dog Man is a favourite amongst the grade as are fantasy and adventure books. We have also been focusing on finding the main idea. The main idea is the central point or most important message that an author wants to communicate in a piece of writing. It tells what the text is mostly about and is supported by details or examples throughout the text. Here are some pictures of what we are reading and examples of how we are finding the main idea in class.
Check out what we are reading in Room 3!
Main Idea -using the book Super Senses on Epic.
Symmetry
In mathematics we have been learning all about different types of symmetry from reflection, and rotational to point symmetry. We all had a go at using the Symmetry Artist on maths is fun to create and make our own symmetrical designs. Check out our creations below.
