Grade 4/5

It has been lovely to see the students returning to school after the holiday with a positive attitude! In the 4/5 classroom, we recognise the importance having a “growth mindset” and understand that the more effort we put into our schoolwork, the better we will become.
In Literacy, we have commenced our class novel, Uncle Xbox by Jared Thomas. The students have enjoyed reading and discussing the first chapter as a class and they are now learning to correctly identify nouns, pronouns, adjectives and verbs. This term, the students have also been given formal reading partners. They take part in regular, fluency reading sessions- taking turns to read as well as provide comments to their partner.
Each numeracy session, the students revise past concepts and then work on new learning. Over the last two weeks, the students have been solving multiplication and division equations using arrays. The students were able to represent arrays using different mediums and they understand the relationship between multiplication and division e.g., 6x4 = 24 and 24 divided by 4 = 6. The students loved working together in our final session to create an amazing city array!
The 4/5 students were given the opportunity to design a fictitious “Road Trip” as part of Humanities. They could travel through 4 states in Australia and enjoyed researching what each state has to offer e.g., landmarks, key attractions, interesting facts and special fauna and flora.
