UNIT OF WORK &

SOCIAL EMOTION LEARNING (SEL)

As you may have heard already via some of our Compass posts, this term's Unit of Work topic is 'You, Me and Family'

Our identities as community members and students are connected to our families, our languages, our traditions and ourselves. During this unit, our preps will learn about their and each other’s families. They learn about their family’s history, and the history of the local area. Students will learn about how they have grown and changed over time, and reflect on their parents and grandparents as they have grown and changed. Students will look at their diversity, hear stories from different cultures, including practices relevant to their lived experiences such as choice of food, clothing or housing, cultural celebrations and language. Students to begin to explore similarities and differences in cultural practices and begin to understand the concept of cultural diversity.

Thank you so much for your prompt replies when we have requested family photos! This week we also sent home a family tree activity. Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you didn't receive a copy. It would be very helpful if these could be filled in with names and drawings and returned to school after the weekend so that the students can use them as reference for our activities.

Remember that you only need to fill in the spaces that best represent your family, and feel free to add, draw and customise the page to suit!

We will continue to work through the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships Program (RRRR). This program supports schools and early childhood settings in promoting and modelling respect, positive attitudes, and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience, and confidence.

Using the RRRR Program and with support from Open Parachute and Zones of Regulations, we aim to help build positive social interactions across our class and the whole school community.
