LITERACY

This term we will continue to use an evidence-based approach to our Literacy learning. Our Literacy Block will continue to consist of reinforcing the core literacy skills which include, fluency, phonological awareness, heart words (irregular spelling patterns), handwriting and the Sounds Write Phonics Program.  

This week we introduced the sounds for the letters d, e, f and v. It's been great to hear from the students that they've been practicing the sounds at home with the decodable books in their reader bags! This term we'll also cover the sounds for k, l ,r , u, j, w, z, x, and y as well as the sounds for double consonants like zz, ff, and ll. 

This term the preps will be focusing on fiction texts and narrative stories. We'll be learning to sequence and retell and learning about characters, setting, problem and solution. 

Sunshine Library is a fantastic resource that has wonderful programs and books to explore, as a way to foster a love of reading with your child.
