Grade 3 News
WOW what a great start we have had to Term 2 in Grade 3!
The students have come into the class settled and ready to learn.
In Literacy our focus has been on the novel ‘Yirra and her deadly dog, Demon’. The story connects to our learning focus this term which is around Indigenous Culture and Country.
"Yirra and Her Deadly Dog, Demon" written by Anita Heiss and the students of La Perouse Public School is a delightful story about Yirra, a young girl who has just two weeks to train her naughty dog, Demon, or risk losing him. This humorous and heartfelt tale offers a glimpse into contemporary urban Indigenous life in Sydney.
In Numeracy, our focus has been on fractions.
Making sure students understand what fractions are and start to identify element fractions, such as 1/2 could be the same as 3/6.
Students are beginning to understand fractions on a deeper level by adding fractions together to make a whole.
In Inquiry, our focus has been on continents and oceans. Students had the opportunity to engage in hands on learning about the different continents and oceans of the world, and have started to ask some great questions and wonderings.
In Religion, we have been looking at the story of Pentecost, which is coming up in June. We have watched the story and are beginning to understand what the Holy Spirit is.
We have also started looking at the Fruits of the Spirit.
Well done to 3 Cummins for winning the Bernie Trophy and our award winners.
Please continue to read with your children so they can develop fluency when reading and understand comprehension.
