Specialist Subjects Learning

Physical Education Learning with Mr. Venter
In week 8 and 9 of Term 1, we were very fortunate to have three netball coaches from Netball SA run some clinics with students across the school. Thank you Alex, Erin and Caitlyn. The coaches helped facilitate games that developed the fundamental movement skills such as passing, catching, blocking and scoring within the invasion game of Netball. Students enjoyed learning the correct court positions so that they were able to play full games of netball.
Japanese Learning with Fox Sensei
Languages connect us to people, cultures and places; they shape who we are and allow us to interpret, create and share stories. Languages open our minds to diverse perspectives and ways of interacting, and help us become more respectful and responsive communicators.
In the Languages learning area, every learner draws upon their knowledge of and experiences with the languages they see, hear or use in their lives. They explore and make connections between multiple languages and literacies to make meaning and express themselves.
When learners have the courage to share languages and cultures in a safe place, they develop understanding and empathy for the diverse ways that people communicate and live. They grow in confidence to build meaningful relationships and be active participants in their communities.
Learning the Japanese language gives students an opportunity to discover the history, religions and cultural traditions of Japan. Japan has kept many aspects of its traditional heritage, but also has a truly modern culture.
Students at Modbury School P-6 enjoy specialist lessons exploring the Japanese language and culture.
Performing Arts Learning with Mrs. Young
Exploring Media Arts in Term 2
This term, students across all year levels have been immersed in exciting learning experiences in The Arts, with a special focus on Media Arts. A major highlight has been the use of our brand-new iPads, which have opened up creative possibilities to every student. Students have loved exploring a range of apps to design digital pictures, tell stories, and express their ideas in new and imaginative ways.
Through guided activities and hands-on practice, students are learning how to plan, create, and share simple digital media artworks. From animated characters to short story videos, the creativity and enthusiasm have been inspiring!
Earlier in the term, our Year 3 to 6 students also had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the DreamBIG Children’s Festival, one of Australia’s major arts festivals for young people. The students were captivated by the incredible performances and interactive experiences that brought different forms of performing arts to life.
It’s been a fantastic term thus far of learning and creative exploration. We’re proud of how students are building their digital literacy and artistic expression through Media Arts, and we look forward to seeing where their imagination takes them next!
