Student Agency - Reports

At Greenhills, we are proud of the way our students take ownership of their learning through Student Agency. We have shared information about our HILATS (High Impact Learner Agency Traits) in previous communication, with our whole school focus being on Acting with courage and being open to the new. At the start of every day, for 15 minutes, students focus on setting up for success, setting goals, checking in on their progress, and thinking about what helps them be the best learners they can be. This time is all about making choices, being independent, and understanding what helps them to be the best learner they can be.

GREAT Fridays!

Each Friday, our focus turns to our school values: Grit, Respect, Effort, Agency and Teamwork – our GREAT values. These values are supported by our HILATS and work hand in hand to help us set personal learning goals.  Students reflect on how they are living these values and showing these HILATS at school, whether it’s trying their best even when it’s hard, showing courage to do something differently, working well in a team, or taking positive risks in their learning. It’s a time to be proud of the little (and big) ways we are growing as learners and people.

We use a rubric (see a snapshot below) to reflect on our individual progress. You will see evidence of this reflection in their student report at the end of the year. These are some of the things that we value inside of the classroom and help in developing students who are ready to tackle the challenges that life will throw at them in the future.

Self Reflection on Reports:

As well as the GREAT rubric, throughout this term, all students will also be writing a self-reflection as part of their reports. In this reflection, they will share a highlight from their year so far; something that made them smile, feel proud, or excited to come to school. A moment they showed courage or were open to something new, maybe trying a new activity, speaking up in class, or learning from a mistake.

These reflections are an important way for students to think about who they are as learners, and how they’ve grown this year.

We’re so proud of the way our students are embracing agency and the HILATS, showing the GREAT values, and becoming confident, reflective learners.
