Senior Secondary School

Thankyou to our entire PBC community for your support and involvement in what has been a wonderful start to Term 2. We hope that our senior students have settled well into the academic year, particularly as arts and sports extra-curricular commitments tend to increase as we approach Term 3. It has been particularly pleasing to see our Year 10 and Year 12 students receive their first report card for the year, with many students well on their way to achieving the outcomes they have been working hard towards.

In the next couple of weeks our Year 12 ATAR-eligible students will undergo their first round of ATAR mentoring for the year. This process pairs every student with a senior academic mentor, assesses numerical results, ATAR predictions and opens discussion around tertiary pathways. Bond, Griffith and Southern Cross University will be on hand to assist students with scholarship applications and early-offer programs after each interview. Students should keep their eyes on their email inbox for further information in what is always a richly beneficial discussion around academic outcomes.

ANZAC Day

We’d like to acknowledge our entire school community for the manner in which they commemorated ANZAC Day this year. Our school has a huge imprint on our local area and enjoys a wonderful relationship with the Currumbin RSL and local veteran associations. This year’s ceremony at school featured a wonderful service run by our Senior Student Leaders, featuring our OPTIMA Orchestra and our air force cadets.

This year both our Vocal Ensemble and School Captains were privileged to also represent our school at the Currumbin Dawn Service at Elephant Rock. Our School Captains, Sahara Zisti and Isaac Elmore had the opportunity to speak on behalf of their generation to the nation at this service and reflected on the impact of ANZAC Day to them in a beautiful address. You can view Sahara and Isaac’s speech here .

Trivia Night

Thankyou to the 350 Year 12’s and 30 staff who came along to the Year 12 Trivia Night recently, raising fundraising money for our school charity, the Queensland Children’s Hospital. These Year 12 events are wonderful opportunities for students to relax and build connections within such large cohorts as well as a great time to dress up, have fun and raise money. We look forward to our upcoming Year 12 events early next term.

Assessment

Assessment calendars for term 2 are published on the school website and shutdown calendars for Year 10 and 12 will be published on the website in the coming week (here). Year 10 and 12 students have their next shutdown commencing in the last week of school this term.

Year 11 students have just completed their Unit 1 assessment. Their next assessment block is early in term 2. End of Unit 1 subject reports should be emailed home in the week commencing June 9.

Year 11 students will have the opportunity to change classes at the end of Unit 1. They are available from now until Monday June 16.

Year 12 students are now completing Unit 4 work and will only have 2 assessments left in each of their subjects. At the end of Year 12 students’ results in Unit 3 and 4 are combined to award an exit grade and for General subjects a numerical value. As such it is imperative that student do not rest on their laurels and remain focussed for the rest of 2025.

Other Senior School News

  • All Year 11 and 12 students should by now have registered for the QCAA student portal on the myQCE website. They also should have completed the Academic Integrity Course in the Online Learning section. This will become a pre-requisite of the QCE. Students are not sent certificates by the QCAA upon graduation from school and completion of the QCE, all results and certificates are now provided digitally within their student portal.
  • Year 10s and 11s are again encouraged to register for School based traineeships and apprenticeships (SAT) in Y block. A SAT will give students paid employment, work experience and a Certificate 3 qualification which gains extra QCE credits, but also opens up a tertiary pathway. Please contact Ms Shreeve in Y block for more information.
  • Students in Year 10 are again reminded that their academic performance in Year 10 semester 1 will determine which pathway they can choose in Year 11. Students wishing to complete an ATAR pathway need to achieve Bs in English and Maths.  Students wishing to study a senior science course in year 11 and 12 also need to achieve a B in Year 10 Science.
