PDHPE

As we start our PDHPE Lessons in Term 2 we would like to commend students for their engagement and participation in various practical and theory based activities in Term 1.

This Term in theory lessons, Year 7 explores the unit ‘stronger together' focusing on inclusion and empathy. Students will learn about strategies to effectively develop an understanding of others feelings whilst also learning the art of responding when they see others in need. In practical activities, students will be continuing on with skills and activities to showcase their ability to strike and field. Many games such as T-Ball, Kickball and Cricket will continue to be played over the course of the term.

Year 8 is focusing on the unit ‘Caring for myself and others’. Students' knowledge and understanding on the important topics of consent, healthy relationships and online safety are being further developed. In the practical component of the course Year 8 continues to focus on invasion games such as Soccer, Touch and Futsal. At the completion of this unit, students will be participating in some Indigenous and inclusive games.

Year 9 students have started a new unit titled Respectful Relationships. Within this unit students will be exploring relationships skills and responsibilities such as consent, empathy, assertive communication and conflict resolution. By teaching these skills we aim to support students within a variety of relationships and help students to further develop protective behaviours. In practical lessons Year 9 are finalising their assessment on Basketball and will move onto developing Badminton skills.

Year 10 has begun the unit ‘Risky Business’ which develops skills of making informed decisions. Topics such as drugs and alcohol are a particular focus this term. Students will be given ongoing scenarios, groups sessions and discussion activities to effectively be able to make positive decisions that minimise risk and limit negative risk taking. In practical lessons, students will be enjoying participation in either Tennis or Gaelic Football.

In one of our elective classes this term, Year 9 Outdoor Ed enjoyed an excursion to Canberra for their unit on rock climbing and abseiling. They participated in indoor rock climbing at Mountain Strong and outdoor abseiling and rock climbing at White Rocks. Students had a great time and challenged themselves both physically and mentally, showing great determination and courage. Planning is currently in progress for their next excursion to the snow, which will take place in term 3.
