Lenten Giving Programs - Thank you
Throughout our Lenten journey, Mater Dei Catholic College pledged to work in partnership with Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion Campaign, ‘Unite against Poverty.’ In Homegroups, our community prayed for a just and peaceful world where all people live in love, harmony, and mutual care. Collectively we raised $1315.95.
In a similar way, our annual Easter Raffle was also hugely successful with over 50 prizes and $1143.15 going to the local chapter of Vinnies in Kooringal. Congratulations everyone and thank you for your support of these Lenten Giving Programs.
Mother’s Day
We give thanks for the mothers and mother figures who have guided and protected us, who have taught and encouraged us, loved and nurtured us.
We give thanks for mothers who have passed away, birth mothers, adoptive mothers, foster mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters, and for all women who take on a motherly role.
To the mother who is new, who is up and down all night.
To the mother whose heart is full, but with empty rooms now.
To the mother who cried today and wonders if she is enough.
To the exhausted mother who doesn’t know how to answer, “What did you do today?”
To the mother who stays at home.
To the mother who works and juggles so many balls.
To the mother who stares at her child in awe, who still can’t believe.
To the mother currently tearing her hair out.
To the mothers that are no longer with us, but always will be.
To the mothers who lift each other up.
To the mothers who show up every day.
May each mother feel value in the work they do.
When the days feel difficult, that’s because they are.
Being a mother is the hardest yet most rewarding job in the world.
They are not just a person.
They are a place.
They are someone’s home.
Mother Mary, protect and guide the mothers within our Mater Dei community.

Honouring Mary in the Month of May
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of the Church and therefore the example, guide and inspiration, of everyone who seeks God through their lives, work and mission. During the month of May, we hold Mary as our focus of prayer and intention, allowing her grace and peace to fulfil and sustain us through challenging times.
Edmund Rice Feast Day - 5 May 2025
On 5 May each year we celebrate the legacy and the power of the story of Edmund Rice.
The feast day of Blessed Edmund Rice has been celebrated on this date since his beatification by the then Pope John Paul II in 1996. The Pope spoke of Edmund as "a shining example of the fruitfulness of the Christian Life.
Celebrating his feast day recognises his life of service and invites students and staff to reflect on how they can live out similar values in their own lives—compassion, courage, and commitment to justice. We will honour Edmund and Nano’s legacy at our upcoming Founder’s Day Mass on Friday 30 May.
“A man of indefatigable zeal and charity, endowed with great prudence,
energy and perseverance”.
Pope Leo!
Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, became the first US-born American Pope. With a background of study in Rome, ministry in Peru, and leadership in the Augustinian Order, he is a multilingual canon lawyer and mathematician. Committed to synodality, social justice, and issues like migration, climate action, and abuse survivors, in his first message, he has called the Church to move forward united and fearlessly, guided by Christ.
Prayer for our New Pope
Loving God, bless Pope Leo with wisdom, strength, and compassion. Guide him as he leads your Church with humility and love. May his service bring unity, hope, and peace to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
