Backflips Against Bullying - A Powerful Message Delivered with Energy
Last Friday, our whole school enjoyed a high-energy incursion from the Backflips Against Bullying team. While the flips and stunts were certainly impressive, it was the message behind the performance that really made an impact: Be calm and be kind.
Through humour, storytelling, and some very brave student volunteers, the performers helped students understand how their actions, big or small, can affect others. One standout moment involved a demonstration of how quickly a rumour can spread and how deeply it can hurt. A big thank you to Kate B for being such a good sport in that scene, it gave everyone a powerful glimpse into what it feels like to be on the receiving end of unkind behaviour.
The show also gave students practical tools to handle difficult situations. They were encouraged to use their superpower: resilience. That means staying calm, not reacting with anger, and choosing kindness even in challenging moments.
Events like these are a great way to spark conversations at home. We encourage all families to take a moment to talk with their children about bullying, what it looks like, how it feels, and why it’s important to speak up and support each other. These conversations help build empathy, confidence, and a stronger school community.
A big well done to Leonie, Megan, and all the students who stepped up to take part in the performance. Your courage helped bring these lessons to life!
