Holy Cross Happenings

Aqua Aware Swimming Program
This week, our Prep to Year 3 students have been participating in the Aqua Aware swimming program, and it’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and growing confidence in the water.
One of the highlights has been watching our younger students show increasing independence especially as they get themselves changed and organised each day. Even though they’re often a little tired by the end, they’ve shown great resilience and a positive attitude.
Well done to all our young swimmers, and thank you to families for your support in helping them prepare each day!

UBUNTU ARE COMING TO HOLY CROSS!
We are delighted to welcome Ubuntu - a group of 14 young Africans, to Holy Cross.
During their stay, Ubuntu will host a workshop with our students and spend time in classrooms and on the yard. They will also be living with 7 generous Holy Cross families during their three night stay. This will give them a chance to experience life in the Macedon Ranges.
The highlight of the tour will be a concert to be held on Thursday 26th June at 7pm. Ubuntu will perform a 90 minute showcase of song, dance and storytelling. It promises to be a memorable and heartwarming experience for all. Our school choir will also perform on stage with Ubuntu - an amazing opportunity for our students!
Tickets are on sale very soon. We will send out an Operoo with details of how to purchase.
UBUNTU Africa empowers graduates of the Choir to share their talents globally, while raising support for the next generation. To date, the African Children’s Choir has supported more than 54,000 children through education and mentorship. Since 2011, Kwaya Australia has supported the African Children’s Choir by being involved in life-changing education projects and have hosted several international tours that bring Africa and Australia closer together.
Holy Cross are proud to work in solidarity with Kwaya in making a difference to the lives of these young Africans.
Schools Out
Hi families,
We had such a wonderful time kicking off Lunchbox Legends this week! The kids loved making their own Vegemite Pinwheels. There were lots of smiles, proud chefs, and full lunchboxes heading off to school.
We’re excited to make this a weekly part of our routine, helping children build confidence, independence, and healthy habits through fun food experiences each Tuesday morning.
Next Tuesday, we’ll be having a DIY sandwich station. A perfect way for the kids to get creative with healthy, tasty options.
Please remember to pack an empty lunchbox so they can take their masterpiece and snacks with them.
Thanks for your support. Can’t wait for more fun next week!
Kind regards,
Chelsea

Get to Know Your School Captains
After spending a day with our School Captains at a leadership event earlier this year, we discussed ways to help younger children feel more connected to their leaders. One idea that came from that day was to introduce a special segment at assembly titled “Get to Know Your School Captains.”
The goal is simple: by learning more about our captains and their interests, we hope our younger students will feel more comfortable approaching them with questions or concerns and maybe even discover some shared passions along the way!
So far, we’ve had the pleasure of hearing from:
- Sienna, who spoke about her love for theatre,
- Fletcher, who shared his sporting talents,
- and most recently, Gabe, who introduced us to his incredible world of fishkeeping (see below!).
Our captains are impressive young people with big hearts and a genuine desire to support others. We can’t wait to hear from Muna at our next assembly.
Gabe - Our Resident Fish Expert
At last week’s assembly, Year 6 School Captain Gabe gave a fantastic presentation about one of his greatest passions, keeping fish! Gabe spoke confidently to the whole school, sharing his impressive collection of seven fish tanks at home, and the variety of creatures he cares for in each one.
Two of his tanks are cold water. One is home to two baby axolotls, Arthur (pink) and Godzilla (black). The second cold water tank houses a mix of fish, including comets, a shubunkin, and a black moor.
The remaining five tanks are tropical, filled with vibrant species and kept warm with heaters. One features two angel fish, an albino tiger Oscar, and a copper Oscar with one eye, named Nick Fury. Another tank holds an amazing mix of tetras, platys, danios, gouramis, catfish, blind cave tetras (which give Gabe’s mum a bit of a scare), and even a mussel called Russel.
Gabe also cares for a baby Murray short-neck river turtle named Gamera, who can crawl, climb, and swim at top speed. And in another tank, there’s a growing guppy family. Twenty-six baby guppies (or guppy fry) were born just last week!
Gabe loves coming home after school to feed his fish and watch them swim around. It’s a hobby that brings him a lot of joy.
If you have fish at home, are thinking about getting some, or just have a question about any of Gabe’s aquatic friends, he’d love to chat! Just say hi when you see him around the school.
