Message from Mrs Meyer

On Friday, we met with the school reviewers for the final stage of our school review process. During this meeting, the reviewer shared a draft report outlining the findings and recommendations. We’re expecting to receive the final version very soon.

This review reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff over the last four years, and the outcomes so far are both encouraging and affirming. We took some time Friday to review the draft carefully, as I wanted to share some important review feedback with you all, which is why this newsletter was slightly delayed.

The reviewers clearly highlighted the school’s strong commitment to working in partnership with families, creating inclusive and supportive learning environments, and using thoughtful, evidence-based teaching strategies. The relationships students have with our staff was strongly acknowledged, noting that students felt they could rely on support from staff with their concerns. Additionally, the reviewers noted the rich learning experiences that are continuously adjusted to meet student needs and the specialised support and dedication of our staff and leaders.

It’s an absolute privilege to be working alongside a team of staff that I’m sure many of you already know to be capable, dedicated, and deeply passionate about their work. In the short time I have been here, I’ve seen this firsthand, and now, as part of our recent school review, it has been formally recognised.

Please take a moment to thank your child’s teachers. Their care, commitment, and hard work make a real difference every day.

In this spirit, we turn to Mary Help of Christians, Patroness of Australia, whose feast we celebrated on Sunday. Her intercession offers us strength and guidance as we unite in prayer and action, fostering hope, joy and renewal within our school community and embracing the spirit of National Reconciliation Week which begins tomorrow.

Loving God, you place deep in our hearts the love of Mary, Help of Christians.

Through her prayers grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.

Under her protection may Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace.

We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

Many Blessings,

Eloise Meyer

New School Closure Day - Monday 21st July

Please note that Monday, 21 July will now be a school closure day for all Holy Cross students.

On this day, our staff will join colleagues from more than a dozen  schools to take part in a pilot initiative focused on our Catholic Mission and Identity. This professional learning is part of our ongoing commitment to excellence in Catholic education and ensures our staff continue to meet important accreditation requirements.

We’re excited to be part of this unique opportunity.  We also hope that by providing advance notice, families will be able to plan accordingly.

Term 3 will now begin on Tuesday, 22 July. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Welcome Megan!

We are pleased to welcome Megan Vaughan, who is currently halfway through her four-week teaching placement with us.  She is currently doing amazing things in Prep A and is quite the celebrity!   We’re excited to have her as part of the Holy Cross team during this important stage of her journey into the teaching profession.

Portables Working Bee

The portables have had a great clean out.  We had an army of wonderful volunteer parents and students who meticulously broke down furniture and carted shelves, tables and chairs to storage in the shed.  It was a very big job, made possible simply because people were willing to be part of the work. We will have many more working bees to come, so please keep an eye out.

Supporting Sports

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who continue to support our sporting programs, volunteering their time for training and coaching. A special shout-out to Emma Thom, Susie Lockens, and Grant Morrison, who have dedicated their time to preparing our soccer teams and coaching on the day, your efforts certainly made an impact on our teams and are greatly appreciated!

We would also like to thank Matt Szostak for coaching our Girls Football Team and John Telfer and Luke Allen for coaching our Boys Football Team in preparation for the District Football Event. Your support, energy and encouragement made the day a great success for our students — thank you!

We’re also grateful to the parents who came along to cheer on our students. Our children absolutely love seeing their family members involved, and your support plays a big part in building a positive and encouraging sporting culture.

Whilst we are talking about sport, School Sport Victoria (SSV) recently introduced a Positive Behaviour Rule. This guideline promotes a safe, respectful, and supportive environment at all school sports events. We encourage all students, parents, and spectators to familiarise themselves with it. You can find the full document on the Sport page of our school website.

Prep Tours & Enrolments for 2026

We were fortunate to have some amazing parent and student volunteers supporting us during our open ay last Saturday. A special thank you to Annette, Alma, and Valda, who generously gave their time and shared their insights with prospective families.

Our visitors were full of praise for the beautiful school grounds, the welcoming classroom environments, and the engaging learning approaches on display. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success!

We’re also delighted to have sent out the first-round offers for our 2026 Prep enrolments. We understand that families with siblings planning to attend may not yet have completed an enrolment form, however there's still time. Simply visit our website and complete the online enrolment form or contact one of the Sues in the office for assistance.

Tuckshop Helpers Needed!

Volunteering in the Tuckshop is a wonderful way to get involved, build relationships with students, and feel part of our school community. We're currently looking for parent helpers on Fridays from 11:30am to 1:45pm.

Even just one session can make a big difference plus the students love seeing familiar faces behind the counter! If you’re available, and have a current working with children check, please pop into the office to add your name to the roster.

All students attending Holy Cross Primary School have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.
