Katelyn Lavcanski - Year 8
On Tuesday, the 28th of April, the Macleod College Year 8 girls softball team headed to Aitken Hill Recreation Reserve to compete against the Northern Region. The day started with high energy and team spirit as we got to school, which subsequently continued throughout the bus ride to the venue.
Once we arrived, we were eager to start warming up and get the day started. Our first match against St Helena went in our favour as we came out with our first win of the day. From our first match onwards, we set a high standard that we maintained and continued to drive over the course of the rest of our matches, securing victory in all games. This achievement has brought us one step closer to our overarching goal of becoming state champions. Even though our performance on the field was unmatchable, our success was not purely defined by skill; it came down to our ability to rebound with composure against difficult instances such as tough calls, harsh language, as well as some unsportsmanlike behaviour. As a team, we integrated Macleod College's core values by achieving through our determination to strive for success, showing respect by demonstrating sportsmanship to every opposition and being obedient to all coaches, officials and umpires. We continued to show our unbreakable connection by consistently uplifting each other to maintain a strong sense of team unity. By collectively embodying all core values, it is ultimately true to say that we were worthy and deserving champions on the day.
