Child Development & Wellbeing Information
Each week I try to share some info and resource recommendations in the newsletter.
This week...
I listened to this half-hour podcast recently and just wanted to share it, along with some other resources from Dr Billy Garvey. His advice is compassionate and practical for children and their families. As a teacher, I always appreciate his insights and advice for supporting children.
All in the Mind Podcast episode: Tantrums, sleep training and anxiety: Dr Billy Garvey answers your parenting questions (30 mins)
How can I help my child with anxiety? What's the deal with sleep training? Are we supposed to ignore tantrums?
This week, we've invited developmental paediatrician Dr Billy Garvey back on All in the Mind for a mailbag episode. We'll unpack your parenting dilemmas which cover questions about kids of all ages, from the littlest of newborns right through to teenagers.
So whether you're a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, friend or someone just curious about how to support young people in your life, Billy has advice for navigating challenging moments. And please note, one of the questions is a bit heavy, touching on the topic of suicidality. Please take care while listening.

There's a few of us at school who love this podcast - highly recommend the whole catalogue, or scroll through the episodes for topics of interest.
This podcast is about finding the sweet spot between the textbooks and real life when it comes to parenting. Dr Billy (a developmental paediatrician) and Nick (a developing parent) are a couple of dads having honest discussions about parenting day to day.
One of my favourite episodes on a topic we maybe don't talk about enough: Episode 13 & 14. Parenthood & sensitive kids
Goldfields Libraries have a few copies of this if you're a borrower like me!
Children of all ages are grappling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and behavioural issues, and it can take years to see an expert who can help them.
Dr Billy Garvey is a senior specialist at one of the world's biggest and most prestigious paediatric hospitals. With over twenty years' experience working with families, he wants to reassure parents that there is no such thing as a bad child and that much of what he tells families in clinic is based on the same principles he outlines in this book.
Regardless of whether you have a young child or a teen on the brink of adulthood, by understanding the foundations of good mental health, you will be able to help them to thrive at any stage in their development.
