Curriculum Corner...

Introducing.... Zoe Dwyer
I am thrilled to be working at St Luke’s and already feel so welcomed by the staff, students and wider community. I feel very grateful to be working alongside such a supportive team.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband Tom and our golden retriever, Daisy. I love camping, catching up with family and friends, and getting away to Echuca for waterskiing or Rye to relax.
Spotlight on Year 3-4 TEAL:
On Monday, 3-4 Teal proudly shared their learning about mountains and animal adaptations during our assembly. The learning was derived from our Knowledge Rich Curriculum Unit that we began last term. Students explored how mountains are formed, why they are important and how animals—particularly Australian alpine animals—survive in cold mountain environments.
They confidently presented their knowledge about famous mountains, extreme climates and the special adaptations animals use to survive such as thick fur, shelter, moving to warmer areas and hibernation. A special highlight was students showcasing the creative cold-climate animals they designed as part of this unit.
We are so proud of the confidence, creativity, and learning our students demonstrated. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all they have discovered this term.

Gardening Club
Gardening Club got off to a wonderful start in the middle of Term 1 when students planted a variety of vegetables including carrots, lettuce, spinach, cauliflower and broccolini. A big thank you to our amazing Working Bee families who prepared the veggie patch and made it possible for us to get planting.
Last week, students celebrated their first harvest by picking fresh lettuce and using it to make delicious, healthy rolls. It has been exciting to watch our garden grow and to see students enjoying the results of their hard work.

STEM in Action
For the first few weeks of STEM this term Years 1-6 have been finishing off their stop motion animation projects about the science learning from last term. The Year 1/2 students created animations about what living things need to thrive and survive. In 3/4 the students demonstrated a chosen concept about ‘States of Matter’ and 5/6 students created animations about producers, consumers and decomposers/ scavengers. The students have created the most spectacular animation and should be extremely proud of what they’ve produced. They all demonstrated great communication and super team work skills.
We are currently trying to figure out how to get these amazing animations somewhere where you can view them. We will update you when we have figured it out. I can’t wait for you all to see them!
