Our first excursion and trip on the bus brought many smiling faces and much anticipation to reality for the visit to Myuna Farm. The three prep classes were complemented by staff from the farm and the bus driver on their fantastic listening and behaviour. We are SO proud of you all for representing Kalinda in such a magnificent way! Have a look at the wonderful fun we all had…

Last week, the Junior School students participated in an engaging incursion with the RACV Safety Squad. During the session, students explored important safety messages about staying safe at home, being responsible pedestrians, riding bikes safely, and travelling safely as passengers in cars. Through interactive discussions and activities, students learned practical strategies to help keep themselves and others safe in everyday situations. We thank the RACV Safety Squad for delivering such an informative and enjoyable learning experience.

During our Year 3 and 4 Numeracy lessons, students have been learning to classify two-dimensional shapes, recognise shapes in everyday objects, and identify the common shapes that combine to form composite shapes.
Students have demonstrated their understanding by:
Below is an example of the composite shapes a student designed and created.

In Literacy, we have been continuing to enjoy our class novel Us Mob Wallawurru, and it has been wonderful to see the engagement and enthusiasm during our reading sessions, with some great discussions happening along the way. Alongside our reading, we have also begun exploring appositives and how they can add detail to our writing. This has allowed students to become creative and think of new ways to describe characters by adding a noun next to the original noun.
In Maths, we have kicked off a new unit on decimals, building our understanding of what decimals are, how they work, and where we see them in everyday life. To bring the learning to life, we took on a really fun task, they were asked to order the heights of famous people from shortest to tallest using decimal numbers. The students had a blast discovering just how tall (or not so tall!) some of their favourite famous faces are, and it was a brilliant way to practise comparing and ordering decimals in a real-world context.
Over the past 3 weeks, students have had visitors from SEA. During their inquiry time they focused on Relationships and Puberty Education, where they explored deeper topics including personal growth, puberty, respectful relationships, body changes, and strategies for staying safe and healthy. Through class discussions and activities, students developed their understanding of how people grow and change, the importance of respectful relationships, and ways to make informed decisions that support their wellbeing.
This week, our students from 1-6 have been watching the Victorian Opera's production of The Magic Pudding. Students in Prep will watch the show next week. Over the past weeks, our students have been learning about everything that goes into putting on a show such as this, from sets, props, costumes, and lighting design, to stage managing, as well as opera as an art form. Many classes have even learnt to sing an aria from the show, and it has been great to hear students singing along with confidence when watching the show.
We would especially like to thank Rachael Joyce and Alessia Pintabona, who play the roles of the Narrator and the Judge in the show, and Jeremy Kleeman, who played the Pudding in the original production, for graciously making videos for us to answer some of the questions we had about the show.
