Principal's Report

Thank You   

I’d like to start by thanking families for the kind words and encouragement over the past few weeks while I’ve been Acting Principal in Kirrily’s absence.  It has been really appreciated.

Mid-Year Band Concert

On Wednesday evening our students performed as part of the Mid-Year Band Concert at Montmorency Secondary College.  It was a fantastic night of music and a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform alongside students from Montmorency.

The evening was a special one, marking the 5th collaboration concert between Rosanna Golf Links Primary School and Montmorency Secondary College, and the 9th Superband performance. This year was also the biggest Superbad yet, with around 150 performers across the band and choir, including students from Grade 3 right through to VCE.

It was lovely to see so many proud parents and teachers in the audience, and our students should be incredibly proud of themselves too.  It was very clear how much time and effort had gone into rehearsing and practising, and just as clear how much fun the students had performing together. 

A special thank you to Michael for his work conducting the band and supporting our students, and to Bec for the time and care she has put into working with the choir.  Thank you to all of the staff from both schools who helped make the evening possible. 

Prep 100 Days

A big congratulations to our Prep students, who celebrated 100 days of school yesterday.  The classrooms were full of excitement, with students and teaches dressed up and having plenty of fun with the “100 years old” theme. 

It’s a great chance to stop and notice just how far our Preps have come since the beginning of the year.  Thank you to our Prep team for organising such a great day for the students. 

Attitudes to School Survey

Last week our Year 4, 5 and 6 students completed the Attitudes to School Survey, also known as AtoSS.

AtoSS is an annual student survey completed by students in Victorian government schools from Years 4 - 12.  It helps schools understand how students are feeling about school, including their learning, friendships, sense of connection and overall experience at school.

Working through the survey with students also led to some positive conversations about respect, the way students treat each other, and the way students interact with staff.  It was a nice opportunity to reflect on what makes our school community so strong. 

Staffing Updates

We are please to welcome back Marian Deville to RGLPS. Marian will be joining Meg McLaren in 1B and will teach the class on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

We also welcome Courtney Smith back to Golf Links.  Courtney will be joining the Year 6 team, and will also be in an intervention support role on Fridays.

We wish Sarah McLellan all the very best as she headed off on maternity leave last Thursday.  We look forward to meeting her little one when the time comes.  Current RGLPS staff member Mellita Farmer has increased her time fraction and will be teaching 1A on Mondays while Sarah is on leave. 

Year 3/4 Teacher of the Deaf, Sharon Armstrong will also be taking long service leave from the beginning of Term 3 through to the end of the year.  We wish Sharon a wonderful break and hope she enjoys the well-earned time away.  We are currently working through the recruitment process and will update families once arrangements have been finalised. 

There have been a few moving parts with staffing recently, and through this process our focus has been on maintaining consistency for students and supporting their learning and wellbeing. 

One Week to Go

With one more week to go until holidays, there is plenty still happening across the school.

As I write this, our Year 6 students are off competing in the Inter School Sport Finals.  We wish them the best of luck and know they will do a fantastic job representing themselves and the school.

Next week is also a busy one, with our Year 4 students heading to Polly Woodside, our Wellbeing Festival on Tuesday evening, the Year 6 Ancestors Suitcase Showcase Exhibition and the District Soccer Round Robin. 

A reminder that there will be no assembly on Monday.  Instead, we will hold assembly on Friday at 1.30pm.  Students will also be dismissed early on Friday at 2.30pm for the end of term. 

Term 3 Swimming Program

Our Prep-2 and Year 3-4 swimming programs will begin in Week 2 of next term.  Families are encouraged to check the Compass events carefully, as it includes all key information, including dates, times and what students need to bring.

Semester Reports

Semester One reports will be released to families via Compass on Wednesday afternoon.

Reports provide information about your child’s learning progress across the semester, including how they are progressing against the Victorian Curriculum.  Progression points show where your child is currently working in each learning area and helps give an indication of their achievement and growth over time.

Due to the recent protected industrial action, written teacher comments will not be included in this semester’s reports.  Reports will still include progression points as usual. 

In Week 4 of Term 3, we will hold our three-way conferences.  These will provide an opportunity for families to meet with class teachers and discuss their child’s learning in more detail.  Bookings will be made via Compass, with further information to be shared closer to the date.
