In our Classrooms

Reconciliation Walk

On Wednesday 3 June, our Year 4/5/6 students joined students from other local schools to take part in the annual Reconciliation Walk in Chewton as part of National Reconciliation Week.

The walk followed the Leanganook Track and finished at The Big Tree. Along the way, students stopped at a range of learning stations where they watched short videos, explored storyboards and participated in discussions about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives.

Students learned about important events, people and ideas that have shaped Australia's reconciliation journey, including the Uluru Statement from the Heart, Yoorrook and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have worked to create positive change.

It was a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of First Nations histories and cultures while reflecting on the importance of respect, truth-telling and reconciliation.

Around the school

There has been a lot happening around the school recently. Lots of learning, playing, creating, making and, of course, plenty of cold weather (which really hasn't slowed us down).

The F/1 students have been busy learning about the days of the week and where their names originated. They have also been using a range of hands-on materials to develop their understanding of number, counting and early mathematics concepts.

The 2/3 class continues to explore space and was excited to share its growing knowledge of Neptune and the rest of the solar system. The knowledge students have gained has been astounding, and the vocabulary they are using in their writing is becoming increasingly sophisticated and impressive.

The 4/5/6 students have continued their exploration of Ancient Rome and Roman inventions. They have developed a long list of materials needed to design, create and test a range of inventions inspired by Roman innovations. They have also been working on their reading fluency each day, setting individual goals to help them read with greater accuracy, expression and confidence.
