Welcome to Term 4
Teaching and Learning in Italian
Foundation
Speaking & Listening
This term there will be discussion on Italian culture, recognising Italy on a map, identifying the islands and the capital city Rome. We will look at photos and videos of different regions, discuss the variety of Italian food and look at well-known sights and monuments. In addition we will be reading 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' in Italian, revising the Days of the week and learning about Christmas in Italy. Students will take home their Italian books at the end of the year to share with you at home and read the language learnt throughout the year.
Year 1
Speaking & Listening
This term there will be discussion on Italian culture, recognising Italy on a map, identifying the islands and the capital city Rome. We will look at photos and videos of different regions, discuss the variety of Italian food and look at well-known sights and monuments. In addition, we will be doing little role plays whereby students use greetings and oral language to act out an Italian shopping scene. Students will learn about Christmas in Italy. At the end of the year the students will take home their Italian books to share with you and read the language learnt throughout the year.
Year 2

This term there will be discussion on Italian culture, recognising Italy on a map of Europe, identifying the islands and the capital city Rome. We will look at photos and videos of different regions, discuss the variety of Italian food and look at well-known sights and monuments. In addition, students will learn the language required when purchasing and greeting people in a store. They will participate in role plays and work in groups. Students will learn about Christmas in Italy. At the end of the year the students will take home their Italian books to share with you and read the language learnt throughout the year.
Year 5
Speaking & Listening
Students will learn the language required to purchase in an Italian store and also use the appropriate greetings making note of Formal language. They will create a dialogue and then perform a role play in a group to the class. Discussions will also centre around the currency used (The Euro) and use their knowledge of numbers to exchange money. We will look at photos and videos of Italy to expand their knowledge of Italian language and culture. Students will also learn about Christmas in Italy.
Year 6
Speaking & Listening
Students will learn the language required to purchase in an Italian store and also use the appropriate greetings making note of Formal language. They will create a dialogue and then perform a role play in a group to the class. Discussions will also centre around the currency used (The Euro) and use their knowledge of numbers to exchange money. We will look at photos and videos of Italy to expand their knowledge of Italian language and culture. Students will present their Italian projects on a topic of their choice on Italy to share with the class. Students will also learn about Christmas in Italy.
