Year 5/6 News

Learning Centre Four

Welcome back, everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful break and enjoyed a bit of sunshine and rest before diving into the final term of the year. It’s starting to feel like summer is just around the corner, and there’s a great buzz around the school as we settle back into routines. The students have returned calm, focused, and ready to make the most of the weeks ahead. Term 4 is always a busy one, full of learning, celebrations, and special moments — and we’re looking forward to finishing the year on a high together! The first couple of weeks have already been action-packed, with so many exciting sporting events taking place! From basketball and lawn bowls to tennis competitions, our students have been proudly representing OLSC and showing incredible teamwork, determination, and enthusiasm. It’s been wonderful to see their efforts and achievements both on and off the field — what a great start to the term!

Divisional Basketball

Our 5/6 basketball girls had an exciting day out at Eagle Stadium with Scott and Chelsea, competing against other western schools in the divisional competition. The team played with great energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day — and we’re so proud to share that they placed second overall! It looks like the girls had a fantastic day representing OLSC and should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

Regional Lawn Bowls

Another fantastic sporting achievement this term! Ben recently took seven of our talented Year 5/6 bowlers to the local Bowling Club to compete in the Regional Lawn Bowls Competition. The students showed great focus, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day, finishing an impressive third place overall. Well done to all involved — it looked like a great day out on the greens! We thank Vanessa our parent helper for assisting Ben and the girls for the day.

Divisional Hot Shots Tennis

Jordan and the 5/6 girls headed out to compete in the Hot Shots Tennis Divisional Competition today. It was a hot and windy day, which made it tricky to keep shots on target — but the girls showed great perseverance and team spirit throughout. Despite the challenging conditions, they enjoyed the experience and represented OLSC proudly. We thank Vanessa our parent helper for assisting Jordan and the girls for the day.

Grandparents Morning and Whole School Mass

Today we celebrated Grandparents Day with a special Mass. We prayed for our wonderful grandparents — those who could be with us, those who are unwell, and those who have sadly passed away. After Mass, our grandparents joined us in the Learning Centre to listen to a story together, followed by a shared, picnic-style lunch on the basketball courts.Thank you to all our families for joining us in prayer and celebration. We love and appreciate you! 💛

Inform & Empower

Gallery Image

This term, our Inform and Empower session focuses on helping students think critically about their online world. Students will explore practical ways to recognise misinformation, spotting online scams, and understanding how digital influences—like AI-generated content and online celebrities—can shape what we see and believe. Together, we’ll discuss simple conversation starters you can use at home to build digital awareness, responsibility, and resilience in your child.

It's that time of year again when all students must wear a hat when outside. It is strongly suggested that the hat be a bucket style as this gives the best protection. School hats are available from the uniform shop. Please make sure your child's hat has their name on it. Students who do not have a hat will be asked to stay in the shade as we do have...

Tissues Please

We are in still in need of tissues in the learning spaces.  It would be great if each family could donate a box please.

  • Students bring their laptops and headphones to school each day.  Please make sure these are fully charged.
  • Please make sure that ALL your children's belongings (clothes, lunch boxes, drink bottles, stationery, etc.) are clearly labelled with your child's name. Labelled property can be easily returned to its owner.
