NSW Democracy Challenge 2025
On Wednesday 26 November, some of Evans HPGE students visited NSW Parliament House to compete in the NSW Democracy Challenge. Ellaha and Kseniia placed 1st and 2nd in this intense competition that saw students from across the state compete to write the most influential and persuasive letter on a local or state issue.
Students also had the opportunity to sit in Parliament and witness question-time in action. Evans High School was the only school competing to place twice, a huge achievement for the Evans school community. Congratulations to our winners and students who represented our school so well and for being the voice of change. We are so proud of you all!
Turner and Townsend
2025 marked the second year that Year 10 students at Evans High were invited to participate in the Turner and Townsend Future Leaders in STEAM Program.
Founded in the United Kingdom in 1946, Turner and Townsend is a multinational consultancy firm that deals in billions of dollars in contracts and employs thousands of people globally. As part of their corporate outreach and responsibility, annually they conduct a program where several Year 10 high performing and gifted students are selected to solve a problem through a year long program. The problem that required solving this year was "How do we make the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games cleaner and greener?"
To answer this question, students had to create a presentation based around an idea that could realistically be used by Turner and Townsend and the QLD State Government during the Olympics. Students worked collaboratively, completed STEAM activities, utilised their problem solving skills and were able to demonstrate their capacity to lead high level multimedia presentations to a room full of industry professionals.
This program was also punctuated with a visit to the forthcoming new site of the Sydney Fish Markets where students were able to see first hand the opportunities that are available to them should they look to work in the consultancy industry in the future. Students were given a sneak peak at what the Fish Markets are going to look like and were as a result better able to understand the true scale of what goes into a multi-billion dollar project.
Evans HGPE students performed brilliantly and were personally congratulated by Turner and Townsend staff at all levels of the business. The program was a roaring success and we look forward to taking a new group of students to participate in 2026.
