Math's Survey Excursion
A group of Maths students participated in a survey excursion that provided valuable insights into both the history and modern practice of surveying.
The day began with a session on Australian surveying history, where students learned about traditional survey instruments used in earlier times and how surveying contributed to the development of the nation. This was followed by an introduction to modern surveying technology, including the use of advanced laser instruments used by surveyors today.
Students then engaged in hands-on activities that demonstrated real-life applications of mathematical concepts, particularly trigonometry using the sine rule and cosine rule. These practical tasks helped students see how mathematics is applied outside the classroom. The excursion also included an exciting opportunity to view distant planets through a high-powered telescope, linking mathematics and science to real-world observation.
Later in the day, professionals from the surveying industry delivered a career advice session, discussing TAFE courses, job opportunities, expected salaries, working conditions, and available scholarships. Students also had the chance to interact with peers from other schools, sharing experiences and building connections.
Overall, the excursion was an informative and engaging experience that highlighted the relevance of mathematics in real-world contexts and future career pathways.
Australian Mathematics Competition
We are thrilled to announce that 55 of our talented Evans students represented our school in the prestigious Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) in August 2025. This national event is a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves, showcase their mathematical skills, and engage with their peers across the country.
The AMC is a highly respected competition that encourages problem-solving, logical thinking, and creativity, and it’s a wonderful achievement for our students to be selected to participate. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, hard work, and passion for mathematics.
A special congratulations goes out to the students who achieved a Credit or Distinction in their results, who were also recognized with a commemorative photograph. These talented students are (from left to right) - Jia (Bruce Zhang), Maisa Farzana, Kiana Filipe, Jennifer Pham, Reeva Shah, Evie Hamalainen, Kyle Page and last but not least Tianci Chen. The students' outstanding performance has set a high standard and is a testament to their exceptional abilities and commitment to excellence. Tianci Chen not only received a Distinction, but also received an award for achieving the highest result in the school. We are extremely proud of your accomplishments!
