Term 4 Careers

As we come to the end of another busy and productive year, it’s been wonderful to see so many Evans High School students actively engaging in a wide range of career development opportunities. Throughout 2025, our students participated in Start Your Future courses at TAFE, various industry workshops, university experience days, and work experience placements across multiple industries. These activities have helped students broaden their understanding of future pathways and build valuable skills for life beyond school.

Early in Term 4, a group of students took part in an Automotive Trade Taster Session facilitated by 1300 Apprentice, where they gained hands-on experience learning how to change oil, check water levels, and safely change a tyre. Students really embraced the practical nature of the workshop and appreciated the opportunity to build real, industry-relevant skills.

We also had students participate in the Framing Futures Workshop, a two-day interactive program providing hands-on exposure to the construction industry, with a specific focus on the wall and ceiling lining trade. Feedback from students was extremely positive—they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained valuable insights that led several of them to undertake work experience placements in the industry.

As Year 10 students reflected on their future goals, several took the opportunity to engage in work experience across industries such as plumbing, bricklaying, and automotive. For some, these placements have already resulted in apprenticeship opportunities, which is a fantastic outcome and a testament to their hard work, maturity, and commitment to their future pathways.

In addition, a group of Year 10 students successfully completed their White Card training at school, preparing them for future work in the construction industry and supporting them to make informed pathway decisions.

While Year 10 were unable to participate in the Start Your Future TAFE courses this term due to their transition into Year 11, we were pleased to offer these opportunities to selected Year 9 students. They took part in courses in areas such as beauty and automotive and represented our school proudly.

As we look ahead to 2026, we are excited to continue expanding our career education initiatives, industry partnerships, and pathway opportunities for all students. Thank you to our students, families, and staff for their ongoing support throughout the year. We look forward to another successful and inspiring year ahead.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

It has been a successful and rewarding year for Vocational Education and Training at Evans High School. We celebrated the graduation of three VET classes—two Entertainment classes and one Hospitality class—acknowledging the hard work and commitment shown by our students throughout their competencies, practical assessments, and work placement.

This term also marked the beginning of our new compressed curriculum model, and we are pleased to report a very positive start. For the 2025–2026 cycle, we now have four VET classes running: Entertainment, Hospitality, and two Fitness classes. The launch of Fitness this year has been particularly exciting, with strong student interest and excellent engagement across both classes.

Our VET programs continue to grow in strength, providing students with nationally recognised qualifications, industry-based learning, and authentic pathways into further training, apprenticeships, and employment. We are proud of the achievements of all our VET students and look forward to seeing their continued success as they progress through the 2025–2026 cycle.

Entertainment

In the new VET Entertainment course, students have been focusing on essential safety practices and audio technology, building a strong foundation for careers in the entertainment industry. It has only been a short few weeks, but they have been looking at signal flow to understand how audio systems operate effectively, preparing them for practical, hands-on experiences. Students are also gearing up to complete their White Card certification next year, ensuring they meet industry safety standards. Soon, they will apply their skills by producing a sound-only show, putting their knowledge of audio design and operation into action in a real-world context.
