Study Periods

Students will be required to use the main Study Space in ‘M Block’ when they have a scheduled free period in lessons 2-4 of each day. If a student has no classes scheduled during lessons 1 or 5, they may arrive for their Period 2 class or leave early providing they sign in/out at Senior School.

It is an expectation that all VCE students will take their studies seriously. Students are responsible for their own learning and behaviour, and thus the following rules for the Study Space will apply:

  • Students must sign in with the supervising teacher at the start of the period before moving into any break out, silent or collaborative spaces. Students may also access the Resource Centre providing that this is communicated with the supervising teacher and that they also sign in at the front desk when they arrive.
  • The Study Space must be used for individual or small group study of no more than 5 students.
  • As per our college policy, mobile phones are not permitted in the Study Space. Any student caught with their device will have it confiscated by the supervising teacher. Students will be required to attend a lunch time detention for any mobile phone breach. Air pods/ear phones must only be connected to a computer to view Edrolo/instructional videos.
  • Food and drinks are not permitted during these periods. Students may have a clear plastic water bottle.
  • No bags are to be brought into the Study Space. Students should take their bag to their locker and collect their books before signing in.
  • Students must refrain from moving any furniture unless instructed to do so by a member of staff.
  • Students must respect the rights of others by working quietly. Noise needs to be kept at a reasonable level, particularly in the break out and collaborative spaces.
  • No student should interfere or prevent other students from learning/studying. If experiencing any difficulties during the period, the student should speak to the supervising teacher first before contacting the Year 12 coordinator and/or Head of Year Level.
  • Students may access the Study Space during periods 1 and 5; however, they must seek permission and sign in with Senior School so that teaching staff know that they are present. The Study Space will be unavailable during recess and lunch, and students are encouraged to use the Resource Centre during these times.
  • If a Year 12 class is cancelled during periods 2-4, students must report to the Study Space to have their name marked off before moving to any of the study spaces.

Recess and Lunch Time

  • Senior school students may access the M7 space during recess and lunch; however, this privilege depends on the room being kept clean at all times. Any spillages must be cleaned immediately. If the room is left in an untidy, students will lose access to M7 including the use of microwaves and other appliances for an extended period.
  • Students are not permitted to sit in the Senior School foyer area during recess and lunch times.
  • During wet day timetables, and on a hot day as identified by staff over the PA system, M8 will be opened as a supervised space for students to sit. As M8 is a classroom, no food is permitted in the room at any time.
