Wellbeing at Norwood Secondary College
Our Wellbeing Team provides care and guidance to support every student to feel safe, connected, and confident throughout their time at Norwood Secondary College.
How Students Are Supported
Students can access wellbeing support for a range of everyday challenges, including:
- Friendship or social difficulties
- Feeling anxious, worried, or overwhelmed
- Managing emotions or behaviour at school
- Low motivation, confidence, or engagement in learning
At times, a student may receive immediate support from the Wellbeing Team if they are visibly distressed or require assistance during the school day. Where concerns are ongoing or significant, or where it is appropriate to do so, parents and carers will be contacted. In other situations, students may be supported to manage the immediate concern and build confidence and resilience before returning to class.
Accessing Support
To ensure students feel comfortable seeking help, there are several ways to access support from the Wellbeing Team:
- Request a check-in directly with a member of the Wellbeing Team
- Speak to a trusted staff member (such as a Mentor Teacher, Year Level Coordinator or Head of Year Level) who can make a referral
- Receive a brief wellbeing check-in if staff identify that they may need support in the moment
Parents and carers who have concerns about their child’s wellbeing are encouraged to contact the student’s Head of Year Level or Year Level Coordinator to discuss available supports or request a referral to the Wellbeing Team.
Working Together
If ongoing support is recommended for your child, a member of the Wellbeing Team will contact the primary contact listed in our records to discuss next steps. We aim to work closely with families in ways that are supportive, respectful, and safe for each student.
If your family has specific communication arrangements, please notify the school and provide any relevant documentation so we can ensure the appropriate processes are followed.
Our goal is to keep families informed when support becomes ongoing or significant, while also ensuring students can access timely assistance and continue developing confidence in managing challenges at school.
