Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)
Our Term 4 RRRR focus is Stress Management (Topic 5). Research shows that students who can identify and develop positive coping skills to manage a range of stressors in their lives experience improved mental health and overall wellbeing. This topic will be particularly relevant as we look towards the end of year and transitioning to Grade 3. Through this term, students will:
- Continue to develop calming strategies and relaxation techniques. for when they are feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
- Identify the physiological experiences of stress and what they might feel in their body when they are stressed.
- Identify situations that can cause them to feel stress.
- Identify and develop ways to form connections with other people when they are feeling nervous to do so.
Visible Wellbeing
Our Term 4 Visible Wellbeing focus is Coping. This will help students develop the skills to manage their emotions, solve problems, and handle everyday challenges in positive ways. At this age, children are still learning how to express their feelings and respond to difficult situations, such as frustration, disappointment, or conflict with friends. By learning coping strategies early, students can build resilience, confidence, and empathy. These are skills that support their overall well-being and help them succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Transition to Grade 3
As we look towards the end of the year, it is important that we begin preparing students for their transition to Grade 3. It is important to acknowledge that students can experience complicated emotions during this time, including fear and anxiety around changes to their environment, routine and the people around them.
As we prepare students for this change, it might be helpful to have conversations with your child at home and unpack any emotions they may be feeling about this. It might also be beneficial to prompt students to reflect on and identify positive relationships they have experienced throughout the year, as students will have an opportunity later in the term to nominate five friends who they would like to share a class with in 2026.
Other Wellbeing Initiatives:
- Students will continue to have brain breaks and brain boosts weaved into lessons to support their engagement throughout the day.
- This term, Grade 2 will begin a daily initiative aimed at recognising excellence amongst our students. Every day, each Grade 2 teacher will attach a peg to each student’s school bag. This peg will be attached to a post-it note that will highlight one example of excellence shown by this student. We ask that the peg is returned to school each day so that we can continue to give it out to other students.
- Students are also being exposed to HPS’ School-Wide Expectations document to attain a consistent understanding of the expectations across the whole school.
