Homework Tasks

Commencing in Week 2, students will continue to complete a short, weekly homework task each week that is a shared project between home and school. Each task will relate to curriculum areas being covered in class. Students are to complete their tasks in their homework books. Each task will be due on Friday morning. Each student will share their completed work with their peers on Friday so students can be exposed to and inspired by the ideas of their classmates.

If students feel stuck or confused by certain tasks, it may be beneficial to adopt similar language that teachers use in the classroom to support their engagement. In the classrooms, we often discuss “the learning pit” to describe the feeling of confusion when we are learning something new. Once we have emerged from that confusion and gained more confidence with this knowledge, we are out of “the learning pit”. However, we know that being in the pit is a good thing because deep learning challenges us and encourages us to become more confident and independent learners.

Additionally,  it is important that students continue to consolidate their learning at school by reading at home for at least 20 minutes each day. This practice is imperative in ensuring students have ample opportunity to consolidate reading fluency and comprehension strategies and promotes retention of these strategies in long-term memory.

Online Platforms

Students also will continue to have access to online platforms to complete assigned work on Nessy (literacy), or Matific/Essential Assessment (mathematics). Assigned work on these platforms is periodically reviewed to match curriculum content being covered in class, and is closely aligned with each student’s point of need. Students can complete these activities at their own pace, but should prioritise completing work that most closely aligns with their learning goals.

Furthermore, teachers will shortly be sending home a login for Typing Club, which is an online platform that allows students to practice and develop their touch-typing skills. Students will be completing Typing Club at school, but are encouraged to use their logins at home for extra practice.
