Kicking off their debating journey

Year 7s and 8s this week showed that Mullauna’s debating future won’t be rebutted. They showed they are ready to continue our school’s proud tradition of debating excellence.

Two Year 7 teams debated in the PAC in front of the whole year-level. Sophie Kyriakakis, Alexxis Carter and Oliver Kneebone-Gee were the ‘affirmative’ team arguing that the school week should be four days long. Christina Nikitin, Liam Blakeman, and Michelle Ekunola were the ‘negative’ team, opposing them. In the end, the negative team was declared the winner. Christina was declared ‘best speaker’.

The Year 8s debated that ‘Social media should be banned for children under 16 in Australia’. Michael Bamford, Luke Unwin, and Kasper Leoncelli were the affirmative team, arguing for the ban. Ellie Norris, Ruby Scott and April Stacey argued against the ban. In a very close decision, the negative team won. Kasper was declared ‘best speaker’.

Congratulations to all the debaters. I hope this is just the start of your debating                adventure at Mullauna.
