This Wednesday a group of our Year 7 to 9 students participated in the first North West District Year 7 to 9 Gala Day. We had groups of students playing futsal, netball, volleyball, touch football and basketball. It was great to see students having a go and enjoying sport with their friends. Looking into 2025 there will continue to be two, Year 9 Gala Days and one Year 7 to 9 Gala Day in Term 4. Keep an eye out for these events throughout the year.
The HPE department is pleased to announce the launch of the ‘Aqua Fun Day’ which is replacing the swimming carnival in Week 2 next year, Friday 7 February.
A wide variety of participation based activities has been organised for our students to get involved with to earn points for their house. It will have a different vibe to the carnival we have seen in the past so get ready to be involved. It will once again be at the Albany Creek Leisure Centre and will take advantage of the slide and current-pool as well as the surrounding space. It will be normal school hours for these students.
For those students wishing to trial for the District Swimming Carnival and the representative pathway, and also those students vying for Age Champion and gaining the maximum house points possible, a swim meet will be held at Albany Creek Leisure Centre prior to the start of the Aqua Fun Day. Students will be given more detail about this event early next year.
These competitive swimmers will be asked to arrive at the Leisure Centre at 7:45 am on 7 February 2025. The 50m events for all 4 strokes will be scheduled for the athletes attending. This will conclude at 9:45 am in preparation for the rest of the school arriving for the day of enjoyment at the pool.
The following sporting opportunities will be available early next year.
Met North District and Metropolitan North Regional Trials 1. Discuss with HPE staff suitability to trial at the sports hall staffroom. 2. Nominate your intention to trial and fill out the nomination form at the sports hall. 3. Collect information pack for the trial. This will include a QR code to register required information. | |||

Year 10
Congratulations to Seb, who competed at the AusCycling QLD State Track Championships on Friday 15 November, and took home the gold medal in the Elite Men’s Team Sprint!
This was a big step up from Seb’s usual U19 category, but he rose to the challenge as the P1 rider out of the gate, showcasing his incredible skill and determination.
This achievement marks a strong start to Seb’s track season as he now prepares for the remaining state championship events in the Sprint, Time Trial, and Keirin disciplines. Looking ahead, Seb is also gearing up for the Oceania Track Championships in February, with aspirations to earn a spot on the QLD team for the National Championships in March. We’re so proud of Seb’s hard work and dedication. Well done, and best of luck for the exciting season ahead!
Year 9
Our Year 9 student Aurelia has been given the exciting opportunity to attend some training sessions with the Brisbane Roar’s Women’s team. Aurelia has been working hard, training in the QAS Youth Program, she was invited by their coach to attend these extra training sessions with the Roar Team based on her good performance across the season. This has been a fantastic opportunity for Aurelia too see how a professional team trains in comparison to her training with QAS. Aurelia has also been selected to go to the U17 Junior Matilda’s Goalkeeping December Camp. We look forward to continuing to follow Aurelia’s Football achievement.
