Deputy Principal

Ms Robyn Buchanan-Hodgson - Deputy Principal Year 9

Celebrations!

Our academic year has almost drawn to a close, but incredibly, things never seem to slow down. Term 4 is the busiest time for recognition. We are so proud of the achievements of students and staff, and the themes for our senior and junior awards evenings really highlight our goals.

Congratulations to all award winners! You have worked hard, and you deserve the recognition of your peers and our school community. It is wonderful to share the evening with families, and we know you will treasure these proud moments as the best memories from school.

Final two weeks

By now you will have received a survey about your child’s attendance for ‘Week 11’. Staff will supervise students across the week however students will not be in their normal classes. A full range of activities has been planned. Please notify the school of any attendance issues.

Australian Volleyball Schools Cup – Week 11

EVP students will head to the Gold Coast for a week-long tournament on Monday. This year we have four teams invited to play at the honours level. This is an amazing achievement for these athletes. We wish them, their hard-working coaches and support staff the very best across this challenging week.

New staff induction

New teaching staff for 2025 have participated in a two-day induction process. We welcome a range of teachers who bring their experience from other schools and systems to The Gap State High. All teachers have walked around our beautiful campus and are looking forward to the new school year.

Week 10 activities for Years 7, 8, 9

On Tuesday our Year 7s and 8s went to Wet and Wild water park. This was a great day out and our students had such fun. Of course, the weather has been very summery, so a water park is a great idea! Thanks to the HOY team, teachers and DPs for managing this excursion, and a wonderful end to the year for our junior students.

Wednesday night was the Year 9 boat cruise. By the time you are reading this newsletter, the Year 9 students have sailed down the Brisbane River. What a fantastic activity to mark the end of junior secondary years. Students and staff alike have been excited about this event, as it really is a milestone activity after three years at high school.

Staff recognition

At this time of year, it is appropriate to thank our staff for their hard work and dedication. This school is very fortunate to have talented teachers, incredible leaders, and amazing specialist staff who make sure everything happens for our students. While walking around the grounds with our new teachers this week, I felt a sense of pride in having such a beautiful location and friendly faces at every turn. So much gratitude!

Have a wonderful holiday season and enjoy time with your family and friends.
