Visual Arts

Over the last two weeks, students have been busy finishing off their creative animal projects and other fantastic art pieces. To celebrate the season, students also had the option to make festive Christmas crafts and decorations, showcasing their creativity and holiday spirit.

It has been an incredible year, and the Art Show was truly a highlight—providing the perfect opportunity for students to display their hard work and dedication. A heartfelt thank you to all families for your wonderful support throughout the year.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy New Year. We look forward to another amazing year of creativity and learning in 2025!

PE

As we draw the end of the year, each class has celebrated our PE year with a choice of games and activities that they have enjoyed over the year that they would love to play.

As a result we finished with a combination of the following games in each class.

  1. Fruit salad
  2. King Catcher
  3. Clean the yard
  4. Ship, Shark, Shore
  5. Various relay games
  6. Human ladder
  7. Dodgeball

The 34s and 56s also finished their term 4 Bike Education Program with a Small Ride Out and a Big Ride Out respectively.

These were both great events and the 34s did their small ride out to Kingston Heath Reserve and had a picnic lunch.

The 56s did their Big Ride Out to Black Rock. With a few hills it was a little challenging but all students did extremely well. They also finished with a picnic lunch at the foreshore park.

Both groups had a snack of hot chips and an ice cream and everyone had a great day.

I just want to say well done to everyone this year on your efforts and energy during our PE lessons. Have a Merry Christmas and a great and safe holiday, and see you next year.

Teacher v Student Netball Game

Our leaving 6’s challenged the teachers to an incredibly fun and competitive game of netball Tuesday morning. While the 6’s tried their best, even with the support of some dubious umpire decisions, they were unable to stop a talented and athletic teaching team. Standout plays included Avin’s long range shooting and the netball talents of Miss Lowrie and Miss Beth. We look forward to next year’s Year 6’s netball challenge.

What a year it has been in the library!

An incredible 7091 books were borrowed in 2024. We have 5779 resources available in the space now; these are books, magazines and puzzles. 69% are fiction based and 31% are non-fiction items. 1388 new books were added to the library this year.

None of this would have been possible without the outstanding library team of 2024. I am so grateful for all your hard work and support, you guys are the best. Last week’s Library Day went off without a hitch and the space looks great.

Our Reader Leader for 2024 is Yarik with an unbelievable 165 books borrowed this year. The class that borrowed the most was 12C, with 1263 books.

There are so many amazing plans in motion for next year already, and I cannot wait! Riley North and Noah Horowitz will be taking on more responsibilities as our Library Captains 2025, but do not worry, anyone else who wants to help can still be a Library Leader next year. Interviews will be run in the first couple of weeks in the new school year.

I also have to thank the school community as a whole. Your support is so appreciated. Together, we raised over $10k in the Readathon; made almost $10k in Scholastic Book Fairs; and kept kids’ noses in books and their minds engaged with stories. Thank you! Bring on 2025, and keep on reading!

Auslan for the Newsletter – End of Year

What a wonderful year it has been in Auslan. The students have all improved in their signing skills and it's made me so proud to see so many students progress from signing single signs to now communicating in sentences and having simple conversations.

To finish the year we held an in person Auslan lesson with the team from Auslan Education Services. Naomi, one of the deaf presenters in the weekly videos, came to Le Page with an interpreter and spent some time with each year-level cohort. She shared what it was like to grow up as a deaf person with hearing parents, being the only deaf student in a mainstream school and what it means to her and the wider deaf community to see Auslan taught in schools. Students were inspired by her resilience and motivated to continue learning Auslan so deaf Australians can communicate with more people when out in the community.

It was a wonderful day with students eager to practice their skills with Naomi and introduce themselves in Auslan. Students asked thoughtful questions and learnt a lot about Deaf culture. Naomi even challenged the 56 students to a fingerspelling race. Luke and Kaira were incredibly quick but Naomi’s 3 second record was very hard to beat.

Thank you all for an amazing year. I will miss teaching Auslan next year as I move into the 56 team but I know Ms Buchan will have a wonderful year teaching Auslan with you all. Have a wonderful, safe and restful holiday break and see you in 2025.

Ms. D
